Help - V5 Europe advice required -

Featured Replies

Ive got a bit of a problem now, typical nothing is ever straight forward with me :(

The current owner of the car I have put a deposit on has private plates. He took the paperwork into the DVLA last Thursday to get the plates changed back to what they originally were.

At the time he thought they told him 7 working days to get that completed, however it is now looking like it will take 4 - 6 weeks to get the V5 logbook back.

Now I dont believe this is some kind of elaborate scam, but I am none the less a little concerned.

My biggest issue is with the fact that I need to drive through Europe to Croatia next week and you are supposed to have the reg docs with you.

At the moment I think I will buy the car (the owner will write up a receipt and letter explaining the issue) and take a risk on getting pulled in Europe.

I cant put my trip back as I am going to see my daughter for her birthday.

Any advice gladly received.

Paul

If you don't have the docs, don't take the car into Europe.

That's pretty much it.

It's seriously not worth the risk as the french police can and will take your car or put a huge fine down.

Thanks for the reply, not really what I wanted to hear though :(

What are other members experiences with changing plates on cars before they sell them, how long have you guys had top wait for docs?

Regards

Paul

I am not sure how long it takes, but I would also be warey of buying a car and not having the V5 in my hand.

did this not long ago, took literally a few days, the dvla were really good, ring them up and ask them to do it asap.

as said, no docs.....dont drive as its a legal requirement
