Hosepipe ban....!

Featured Replies

OK, so here in the NW apparently our reservoirs are horribly low and there is consequently a hosepipe ban in place. At least, I think that's what the headline said....I couldn't see too clearly because of the heavy rain obscuring my view!!!! :wonder:

Anyway, in such circumstances how does everyone else keep their beloved wheels ship shape and Bristol fashion? I always used to start off using a hose to wash off surface grit 'n grime before moving on to a bucket for shampoo etc.

Well thats easy ! I have a water butt, from there I feed my pressure washer (ok I know I am using a hose pipe to do it, but not using mains water)

I'm not affected by the ban, but my elderly mother is - so I went to United Utilities website to see who can and cannot use a hosepipe..

Guess what I found:

Please note: blue badge holders and customers who are registered disabled are exempt from the ban.

So basically - if you know, or are, a blue badge holder / registered disabled driver.. you're OK.

If you use a pressure washer it will work as a suction pump from a bucket of water if you cut a length of hose and drape it in, other than that its a good old bucket slooshing and some careful sponging :D

Above all that, you could move to Scotland, its been pishing down here all summer.

That's a good tip mr BigW as I have a Water Butt that's brim full at the moment for watering the garden etc, but I am gagging to give the Prius and MX5 a good clean. I think I may chop off a bit of hosepipe and test it.

I reckon that it will take one of my neighbours around 30 seconds to come and moan about the hosepipe, mother earth and all the furry creatures ........ but they can do one :)

That's interesting, I was thinking of doing something similar. Do you need a pump in the water butt in order to get adequate flow?

Was basically thinking of connecting a Hozelok hose to the water butt, and that section of hose to my Karcher. But was sure if the flow of water to the pressure washer would be sufficient....

Cheers,

Steve
