Brakes and Brake Fluid

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my brakes in the next few months. Not interested in the 312's just want to get uprated discs and padas all round. Thinking EBC green stuff pads with EBC Ultimax discs. First of all, has anyone had any experience with either or both of these, if so, any good?? Also, when it comes to brake fluid, as I should probably do that too, what should I look at to match the uprated brakes??

Never done it before so hence the lots of questions.

Many Thanks in advance.

Oh, and 1 more :giggle: Do brakes that are wearing low create lots of brake dust because my wheels are minging after 1 or 2 days use!!

im going to put dot 5.1 in mine when i get round to it :D

Owners of Fabias find the Green stuff too soft (if you do a search) and insist on the harder Red Ceramic or even Yellow pads. However I put Green on mine and have no problems. I am very tempted to buy the slotted (Ultimax) discs when the pads wear down.

EBCs BF 307 Racing Brake Fluid is very good as well. It is only Dot 4, but has a high (wet) boiling point which is better than most 5.1 fluids.

Cheers man that's really helpful. I'll check out that fluid too. I heard green stuff eat discs but I figure if you put them with the same brand discs they should work fine.

Mintex discs and pads are excellent.

I may only have the 1.416v, but I had all the discs and pads replaced recently for genuine VW parts and it seems pretty good to me. I don't know what OEM crap was put on by the previous owner but the new parts have made a huge difference, along with new brake fluid. HTH
