VRS MPG

Guys

With my last couple of fill ups I have noticed that my MPG has not been anywhere near the 60 indicated by the fuel computer.

On a run down to the south coast over the weekend I traveled in total 437 miles and used 39L of fuel (50MPG). I took it quite easy and didnt go over 70 for most of the journey but I expected it to return more than that.

My time before that was also 50MPG with an indicated 62MPG average. Does it really over read that much?

iv had mine mapped and it says that its doing less MPG but appears to use the same amount of fuel to cover the same miles pre remap!

I guess it depends on how consistent your driving style is prehaps? going pyscho then relaxed might confuzzle the computer....ALTHOUGH there appears to be quite a bit of difference

I tend to aim for £10 = 100 Miles, £20 = 200 Miles if i can. Thats a combination really so you cant complain. anything near that is good for me, none of my friends seem to be able to match that so that suits me good, just means i drive all the time lol. also depends where i fill up, because diesel in worksop is 119.9 compared with 114.9 in mansfield where i pass regulaly so that changes things doesn't it. Still aim for the above though and thats good enough for me

That works out at about 55MPG with the 100 to 10 idea. I certainly dont rag it and I like to think of myself a bit of Hypermiler. It just seems quite low to me.

My computer is also overly optimistic telling me I'm getting 60mpg when in realtiy it's about 50mpg. This is on a 56 plate BLT engined vRS. My last fabia was a 51 plate 1.9TDi and the computer reading was always spot on.

Yeah the 200 miles £20 sounds similar to mine too, however its been dropping slightly after I changed the brakes.. Before I believed it was rubbing.. now I think I simply want to slam on the brakes a bit more because I have some..!

I get around 40-45mpg in my VRS. I don't drive it in a particularly aggressive manner but do put my toe down every now and then. I'm blaming my low MPG on the K&N Apollo air filter I put on, I have no proof but I do have my suspicions! :)

Hello karldyson,

Forget about any inaccurate computer, do fill-up to fill-up, will give a better average.

My 2005 Fabia VRS does 45mpg or 10miles per litre.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I aim for this too and I'm normally not too far off. If you're doing something close to this then I think you're getting a good bit of fun every now and then with the majority being eco driving.

Diesel is 122.9 near me, and I think I normally do about 85 miles to £10.

What engine code is yours? ASZ or BLT?

i do drive like a ****** and i get 39.0 mpg ish , about 50-55 when driving normal ,

Yeah - I always do complete fills so I know my figures are spot on. I was just surprised really - even my old 13 year old Golf TDI would manage 60+ easily. I'll do 100 miles really taking it easy and see what it comes back with.

Not sure what engine code - where will I find it.

I get 45-ish mpg on my weekly 'spirited' driving...

The cars trip computer say's im getting anywhere between 66 and 76mpg on my journeys but i only ever get 50-55 when doing the fill up to fill up comparison.

V5 form (engine number). At least it is on mine for my non-VRS. :)

Its on the sticker in the boot too

i do drive like a ******

:D

:D

Though some one would pick up on it lol :giggle:

i just love the speed the needle moves on the speedo i just cant help it , :D (i did take it steady at dinner and can quite easy get 55-60)

but bugger it if you cant afford to run a diesel you shouldnt be on the road ! my last car avaraged 22mpg :o

I find the best way to check your economy is to look at the fuel left in the mini display - mine is quite accurate if its reads 600 miles on filling up I should get 55mpg :)

Normally get 400 ish to a tank of mostly town and few longer weekend journeys.

I think its normal mpg, nothing to worry about, drive slower if you wnat more :D

Went down to the Isle of Wight on Tuesday - got average 59 mpg (motorway and town) not to bad :D

Only 53 mpg coming back thou :( - must have been more up hill :D

The fuel computer on my vRS SE is miles out. Says 65 - 70 MPG when I actually get 50 - 55 MPG. I always fill the tank and check the MPG using Road Trip LE.

When I've filled up the range on the trip computer says around 750 miles  I usually do around 550 - 600 to a tankful in summer.

Mines a bugger for mis-reading mpg.

My last run showed 75mpg on the clock butI always to a fil up - fill up measure and I was getting 53mpg.

There is a setting in VAG that can reduce the mpg reading to something more realistic. I'm thinking mines been tampered with by the garage I bought it from to look better than its actually getting. Crafty barstewards!

I'd say if your getting a true 50mpg then your bang on spec!

just to update this.

The last 97.1 miles have been travelled with a very light foot indeed - she still only returned 53MPG (8.23L of fuel). That was mainly back roads with a lot of stopping and starting. Maybe with some more motorways I would see into the 60's.

My 2007 vRS says average on the trip of 65.4 mpg, when tank to tanked this in reality is 51mpg. I would love to know why the trip computer is so cr*p on the vRS. I had a Bora TDi Sport for the 5 years prior to this car and the trip computer was excellent. It was very accurate (a couple of mpg's out at its very worst). I worked that out tank to tank many times, and knew i could rely on what it read. I was hoping with a similar driving style in the Fabia would return better mpg (smaller lighter car with same engine and same g'box), but its barely the same.

In my opinion the trip comp on my Fabia is a total waste of time as you cannot rely on what it tells you - 15 mpg difference at 50mpg is ridiculous.
