rear wiper keeps going???

Featured Replies

got a sdi classic, was out in it to day, and while driving along the rear wiper went on it's self, the wiper switch was on the off position,

any help greatful

Possible moisture got into the wiper electrics around the wiper motor, would be my first suggestion.

Did it continue after you turned the ignition off and back on?

Faulty switch perhaps? It the wiper was working due to water / moisture ingress I would expect it to be an intermitent problem.

Sure once one of our professional Skoda technicians sees your message they will have more ideas about what could be wrong. :)

Greetings, the group:

Had the same problem on my Octavia estate. The source was the rubber joint linking the wiper fluid tube to the wiper motor/gearbox assembly. This had gone hard and was allowing the fluid to leak onto the assembly. Before I found this, the motor itself failed due to the leak.

Do any of you know if this 'rubber joint' thing linking the wiper and washer fluid can be replaced, or if it's a compleate replacement of the motor housing and motor itself??

I know a motor and assembly is around £100 give or take a little. I can replace either fairly easily, even though the wiper erm is a right ole bugger to remove!! I've snapped one in the past, so if you do have to remove the wiper arm, just be a little bit carefill.

Regards,

Tony.

I have only heard of this being an issue on the hatch, where I believe the washer pipe is routed up through the spindle (on the estate, there is a jet in the high-level brake light assembly instead). I assume that normally on the hatch, the pipe either splits, or the rubber starts to fail, which in either case allows water into the motor assembly which then seems to cause the wiper motor to run when it wants to.

Hi guys, is the rubber washer replaceable or is it a case of a compleatly new motor?

Was just asking as that's going to be in excess of £100 for new motor and housing where a rubber gasket or seal is pennies!

Many thanks,

Tony.

New motor is under £70 from the dealers and fitting is very easy, hardest part is getting the trim back on inside the hatch.

The seal is not available on its own, although if you could get it out you might be able to find someone who makes hydraulic seals to sort one out for you.

Under £70, I think not!! I wish it was. Quoted £112 by my local Skoda dealers in Crawley. Easily fitted, just parts are a bit expensive.

There's often a used one for sale on here. Since these go for around £30 plus postage normally, you could have two or three and it's still cheaper than buying a new one.

I might even have one for sale myself in a few weeks.

Easy Tiger :giggle:

I bought one about 8 months ago and even without any discount it was less than £70. I can only assume they must have gone up a lot since I bought mine, but they were nowhere near £100 then.

Would not bother buying used ones , false economy. I have been through 2 in the last year. Most of these used ones will have corrosion on them or leak. The internal pipe work leaks and lets water drip into asm and then bugger electrics that makes them work strangley.
