I think a few of these have been fitted mate

Not sure how good they are but at a guess its prob no worse than a std smic.

The claim thats its good for 400bhp is perhaps a bit OTT :giggle:

Bill.

yeah thats a bold claim,

just looked at the dimensions and it's a lot smaller than the forge.

I've had the revo stage one re-map and was hoping that a FMIC will give me more performance gains. What do you think?

Lot of people have now got these ebay FMICs but no-one as yet has had their car RR'd to see if they make any difference. The pipework is also a bit awkward to fit on some of them.

An FMIC is there to allow you to make the same horsepower figure again and again even when engine bay temps rise, not necessarily to improve the actual horsepower figure.

rob clubley's your man ;)

I've got an ebay fmic, looks similar to the one in the link. Inlet side was easy but turbo side was a pain in the you no what. Still waiting for a local company to get back to me to make alterations. I'm running a stage 2 apr map and a few other bits. Unfortunatly I've not had time to get the car on rollers. Generaly if your machanicly minded you should be ok, but check all bits aee there before you start. Learn from my mistake!

Whats wrong with the turbo side? do you have to route the pipe back underneath the intercooler? On the forge there both located on the same side which would be very handy.

My kit was missing 2 silicone pipes & the pipe work was not the best fit. I have a photo but it depends if I can upload it from my phone.

Same here Rob. I had a go at mine yesterday evening. I got a few jobs done but not all of them, so now car is off the road. But its all good I'm using the girlfriends, wait for it....... M reg 1.4 Seat Ibiza. It's like a rocket powered go-kart, not!

Thanks for posting them photos Rob, looks a right ball ache!

I will probably get it done later this year when i build up enough courage to do it!

why bother save money for a decent one or dont do it atall!!!

cheap coolers are not good!!!!

I cant say if mines any good or not. Looks good just behind the bumper and car goes well. But I totally get where your coming from. I wouldn't go down the ebay intercooler route again, far to much hassle.

I bought a pipe kit & Intercooler seperatly & cut the piping to suit, but I did route It like the ABD one & not through past the battery.

I really enjoyed doing It, wasn't too much hassle & according to the logs Shark_90 took when he was testing the car It was working fine & the charge temps were alot cooler than what the SMIC would have been.

Whats the best price I could get a Forge one for? I might have to save up.

Guys,

Im looking on building an FMIC for my freinds VRS, I have no problem building the intercooler or fabricating the pipes as i work for a company that manufacures radiators, CAC'S and oil coolers.

I hav'nt had chance to look at his car just yet, so I would like to know if theres room to fit a FMIC without modifying the bumber?

This will be the second upgrade I have undertaken after my mates Ford Escort RS turbo, if anyone could give me any advise i would be extreamely appreciative.

Cheers in advance

I had to cut some plastic out from the back of the bumper to make it fit after the pipes went on. Using 2.25" rather than 2.5" pipes might save you having to do this. Have a look at the link I posted above, should give you a good idea of the space there is to fit the FMIC.

Okay cheers,

Would you have not been better of fittin a 2 pass intercooler, this would have dramatically reduced your pipework on the outlet as both fittings will be towards the left of the car?

Also do you know what the performance is like on them plate and bar intercoolers? working from experience Ive always found a standard tube and fin core works better.

Possibly yes. That's how the Forge one works. But I wanted to run the turbo outlet pipe down the right-hand side of the engine.

I do plan to get it dyno'd to see what difference this has made. Trouble is it was 28 degrees when I had the last dyno and now it's winter so it won't be a direct comparison.

Ok cool, thats a beautiful lookin VRS by the way

Have you got any dimensions for that IC? do you reckon i could buy that pipe arragment seperate?

Sorry to be a pain im just trying to gather as much info as possible before i jump in.

No problem - happy to help :)

Will measure it tomorrow when I take the bumper off again.

I contacted several of the Ebay sellers of similar ones to see if they would sell only the pipework but none of them replied.

save your money buy a forge or pro alloy one

im pretty confident that the oem sidemount will perform just as good as 99% of them ebay frontmounts

go to forge direct and ask them for a price ;)
