Hello, In a few weeks I will be getting a new skoda fabia 1.2tsi 105bhp.

I wanted to know what the real fuel consumption is and not what Skoda claims.

On a new TSI DSG I'm getting ~30mpg around town and ~45mpg on a mixed run. I've not done a really long run yet. On the whole I'm about 50% better than my old 2L Octavia on the first tank for roughly the same performance.

On a 70mph motorway cruise, the car was reading 47mpg average. On a 60mph cruise, I would probably hit 50mpg or a bit more.

BUT if you cruise at 80mph, you'll only get 38 - 40mpg average. The extra air resistance kills the economy.

I'll find out properly in september when I do a 5 day, 800 mile tour around Scotland. :thumbup:

So if you go 10% faster, you have over 20% more air resistance.

Going just a few miles an hour slower at motorway speeds makes a considerable improvement in economy.

I`ve got the 105 bhp estate version. ..This is very unscientific I know but just reached the half tank point at 187 miles in mostly round town driving..The car has got just 600miles on it from new....Next month I`ll be taking it on a long run on both motorway and round town so will have a better idea after then...Hopefully mpg will get better as the engine beds in..

I've just got a new Fabia 1.2 llitre 105 DSG saloon.  On my first real check I got 44 mpg,  on about 60 miles shortlish journeys plus about 300 miles on motorway (less than 3000 rpm throughout).  I am rather disappointed, as I used to get 40 mpg with my old 1.6 litre Polo (unchanged over 17 years).  Perhaps the high profile of the Fabia (which I really like) leads to a higher drag, as mentioned in an earlier post.  It'll be interesting to see if it improves. 

Otherwise the car (Elegance trim) is a delight - love the DSG gearbox, never had an auto before.

With both the current and previous TSi 86 Fabia's, then the average fuel computer readings have normally been between 42 and 48; mainly local rural driving. Due to the regular low 40's figures with the previous Fabia I did ask the dealer to check all was well and they got a reading in the 60's but how I've no idea :wonder:

 

Oh we got this reading once with the current Monte but I'll own up straight away, as we had just descended down a Swiss mountain road :giggle:

 

Further forgot to mention thinking back, I had a loan SE TSI 105 for 2 or 3 days a couple of years back and that did give me consistently very low 50's on the computer :wonder:

If you've just got a new car it's not the best time to be checking mpg. At 15k I get far better returns than those you get though mines a DSG. How many miles have you done as the engine will need to loosen up before it starts to perform at its best.

in post #3 you say "22km per litre? too optimistic'.

 

In the UK it is an Imperial gallon.  4.546 litres to a gallon.

 so 50 miles divided by 4.546 = 10.99 miles a litre = 17.6 km per litre

 

55 miles divided by 4.546 = 12 miles per litre so =  to 19.3 km per litre

 

60 mpg would still not be 22 km per litre.

It is actually a cube ratio for aero drag.  To go twice a quick you need 8 times as much power.

 

Rolling resistance is a square relationship.

Thats actually quite low. I went to Germany and did about 3000km in total with a mix of autobahn, country roads and city driving and my average was about 47mpg..

is your average of 47 mpg in about 1800 miles not quite low compared to the 'touch over 49 mpg' he achieved.?

 

(actually over the 2540 miles the difference between getting 47 mpg or 49 mpg is just about 2 gallons on fuel.)

I've done 2300 miles in my Monty in 2 months and I'm getting about 35mpg around town and around 40-45 on a 15mile+ motorway journey, I recently did a journey from warrington to Luton and got 57mpg! That was a "Eco run" and with a tail wind (if that makes any difference) but still, very good!

Sorry, in metric units lower equals better, ie his consumption was 0,57liters/10km and mine 0,60liters/10km.

Yeah i know we almost achieved the same fuel consumption but since i did mainly mainroads i was hoping that my car would be around the 0,55liters/10km as highest in average after the journey, which it wasnt..

Wow!

 

Whilst my Superb is in for repair I've been given a Fabia Monte Carlo 1.2 TSi as a loner. It's a 2012 plate (I don't know if it's an 85 or 105? It has emissions of 121g/km).

 

I have a lengthy daily commute (70 miles each way) of 50 - 80mph. Very little if any stop-start driving.

 

My CR140 TDi Superb (with the colder temps and winter diesel) has dropped to approx 48mpg.

 

I fully expected to get much worse MPG in the little Fabia due to the fact that at 80mph it's sat at around 3,000rpm for long periods.

 

Stuck £30 of unleaded in and got 240 miles out of it - that's 46mpg!

 

And to be honest (getting into the little Fabia from a Superb) I wasn't hanging around through the gears - the little car is addictive.

 

It needs a central armrest but I quite liked it, that is apart from the very poor headlights and embarassing horn!

Reading all this doesn't make me feel too bad about my VRS :-)

I can get very similar economy from the 1.4TSI compared with the 1.2!

Plus an extra 75bhp ;-)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was embarrassed by the pip-squeak horn. I had a low-tone horn added, so now it sounds like a grown-up car and other road users actually take notice.
