I've just joined BRISKODA, I don't have a Skoda, but did have an Octavia when they first came over here in 1998; an Octavia SLX 1.9TDI which I bought from Ivybridge Motors. I was teaching in those days, and wanted a car for a planned trip to the south of France, and decided a diesel was what was needed. After much research, my shortlist was the aforementined Octavia or a SAAB 9.3 what swung it was availability. I could get the Octavia for 5 August, in time for my trip. The SAAB would not be available until early Seeptember.

I told the dealers I would accept any colour except the petrol blue/green colour. Though my preference was Silver or Red, working on the idea that car makers put the colour that best suits a car in their literature. A couple of days later I geot a phone cal from the sales manager (Paul in those days) They were getting two silver cars on launch stock to the specification I wanted, both Silver. I could have one if I wished, there principal would have the other.

Great car, did about 70k miles until I swapped it for an Ibixa 130 (Couldn't get hold of a Fabia VRS at the time I wanted to change) in 2004. Thr Octavia was totally reliable virtually never did less than 50 mpg. I remember giving a lift to a friend who drove a Volvo v70, and hillclimbed a 911; he got out of the Octavia and said, that's a well built car.
