Outer Windshield fogging !

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I live in Egypt with hot weather so normally i have to turn on the air condition which work great.

My problem is at night when fogging start appear on the lower part of the windshield from the outside especially at the middle !!!

i know its due to the cold air coming from the vents under the windshield from inside making the glass cold while the outer is hot, that fogging is so annoying and i must turn on the wipers to get rid of them and they start appear again :'(

this problem dose not happen in the morning when the weather out side the car is more hot that at night for sure !!! i don't know why, but may be cause the sun evaporate such fogging may be !!! :wonder:

i don't know how to get red of such night outer fogging except stopping the air from those vents !!!! :S

on automatic mode they work , when i press the front vents only button still the air come out from those windshield vents !!!

the only way is pushing the button that turn on the leg air condition alone or in addition to pressing is with the front vent button, and this is the only way i figured it out to prevent such night fogging , but yet i don't want air on my legs :S and the front vents do not push much air when its added to the legs vents as when its alone or at Auto !!!!!!

what can i do guys ??

Is it normal for those vents to bring air all time at Auto or when the front vents button is pressed ?? or i have something wrong in my air condition system ??

can't i stop air from coming from those windshield vents without pressing the legs condition button ???

help me plzzzzz :S

Do you have the Aircon on at night or just fan

just fan ??

no for sure the air condition is on, thats why the glass of the windshield get so cold from the dashboard area due to the vents there

this is why i need any idea how to stop air running from those vents , or any other ideas :S

Put the air con on and your problem will go away there is too much humidity in the air and it condenses on your windscreen as it is cooler .It happens here in foggy weather  Have it sett at 22 c

Th OP has already stated he has the air con on. His issue is that the outside of the windscreen "fogging up" is the problem.

As it doesn't get hot enough in this country for us to see this problem the only thing I could suggest is playing with the controls so that the air flow isn't directed to the windscreen, for example, selecting the air flow to feet and passengers rather than leaving it on full auto...

Unfortunately the OP has already tried this and his legs get too cold so maybe the answer is to wear long trousers :giggle:

Cold air should only be coming out of dash vents, otherwise the demister function is on.

Another option would be to increase the temperature a couple of degrees.

It will still dehumidify and cool, but maybe not enough to cause this effect.

My problem is at night when fogging start appear on the lower part of the windshield from the outside especially at the middle !!!

I had this symptom when I was traveling in Florida a few weeks ago. It happened only at night too because of the humidity of the outside air, so I turned the temperature of the cabin up a couple of degrees and the problem dissipated

I have driven my car in Calabria where it is 45c , he has got it sett to cold, of course it will fog up as I said previously the humidity in the Air will condense on his cold screen ,if he setts it on Auto as I said it will be ok,and make sure recirculating button is not pressed

Wanna bet? Confused the hell out of me the other day when it was like 30deg in Brighton and we had a little mist! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

i am wearing long trousers my friend , but whom ever is riding with me get annoyed from cold air on their feet

i spent the last 2 days in alexandria which is a cost city and the humidity was very high at night, and even when the air condition fan was on the 1st degree and the cc was 20 still the mist built up so fast and i was the only car in the traffic that is turning the windshield wiper all the time !!! :S

dose other cars have no air condition vents beneath the windshield ?? or they have the option to close the air flow from those vents ??

my problem only appears when the air con is ON my friend

when i close it , the problem go away

as u said the humidity at night is high, but with the cold air coming from the vents beneath the windshield , that makes a difference in the temp from freez glass from inside and hot humid from outside , making the glass mist from outside

i tried 20 c and still mist build up , i will try 22 and see

the only practical solution i found even when the i set the temp on 18 c is to stop the air flow from under the windshield by directing it to the legs+infront

but the problem is i dont want my legs to freez :S

The Air con will take away the humidity no matter what temp you have it on so if you find it cold ,turn the temp up .

my friend u got it all mixed up

the humidity is outside the car , inside the air con is ON and the car and glass is cold from inside

the fogging is on the outer side of the windshield not from inside !!! when i turn the windshield wipers they remove that fog but it come back in 10 sec cause of the high humidity on the outside versus the cold air blowing in the windshield from inside ... got me now ??

if i made the air cond on hot or when i close the air con the outer fogging disappear , but i need it on cause the weather is bad

Well I think, given that this is all about natural conditions when (in this case) warm moist air hits a cold suface there really isn't a solution other than using air-con but having to use wipers, or not using air-con, not getting misting but then having a hot cabin.

You could try an external application of a rain clear product perhaps (rain-x etc) to see if that makes a difference (it might not), although some people don't like this on the windscreen (I use it and I find it ok myself), or perhaps better still one of the spray on car class cleaners that are meant for internal surfaces and are meant to help prevent misting/fogging - if you use one of those very regularly on the outside of your screen it may be a help...

This may be useful for you (although obviously products may not be available in Egypt - but you may find local alternative brands) - anti-mists

As said in previous post, you should#nt be directing cold air to the windscreen, only to face vents. :wall::wall::wall:

What he means is that your air con will take the humidity out whatever temp you are running, so even if you ran it at 25 degrees, the air would be dehumidified.

Obviously setting the temperature too low, means the hot moist air outside hits a cold windscreen and condenses on the screen.

The only way to solve this is to not make the screen as cold.

So your options are:

1) don't point the cold air at the windscreen.

2) pop the temperature up a couple of degrees. (A dry 23 degrees in wet 27 degrees will probably still feel cool)

To the others, if you read the manual, when on auto, the car will warm up from the floor and when cooling blow air as high as it can. The latter will probably include the screen vents.

can u tell me how not to point the cold air at the windscreen ????????????????????????????

:S

In the manual I'm talking about vents number 1and 2 in the figure (page 108 )

cause actually that was my question from the start

the vents that r under the windscreen r always on !!!!

especially those 2 in the middle of the windscreen as always 2 circles of condensation appears at this area

when i switch from auto to the (front only) still the screen vents blow air

the only way is to press the (legs vents) this is only how the vents under the windscreen stops

I have to say that if I press the button to direct cold air out towards face level on the climate control (you have climate not plain A/C right?) then the air flow to the screen is severly reduced or totally cut.

If it's blowing up regardless then it might be worth scanning the car to make sure a flap motor or something isn't stuck open.

If all is ok, then my suggestion of pop it up a couple of degrees would be my next step.

Yeah, just use the manual overide buttons rather than leave it on auto mode - so press the button that shows face level air vents and most of the air will be directed that way (and with the air con on it willl be most of the cold air), although some will always go to other vents (it will never shut them off entirely). At the end of the day though there is not a lot you can do about climatic conditions (that in this case wipers deal with anyway) - I mean even in the UK on some mornings I come downstairs to find condensation and mist on the outside rather than the inside of my conservatory (something to do with the reflective efffects on heat of pilkington K glass I've been told...).

mmmmm r u sure from this info ? :S

i will take the car to the dealer if so , yes i have climatic but when i press the face level button still the air come out of the windscreen vents !!!

i thought its not logic and it must be something wrong but i was hesitated cause i just bought the car brand new.

thats why i came here seeking the right setting

cause i thought my ignorant dealer will say : is it blowing from the windscreen vents ? ok , this is how it should works !!! :wonder:

i press the face level button putting my hand on the windscreen vents ( at the middle which most the air come) and i can't notice any change in level of the air, especially when i am increasing the fan power

i can't tell if this how it should works or something wrong with those windscreen vents , and i really don't think my dealer will help me in giving me a true answer, last time i asked him he said , well mmmm this is 2010 model ...they changed those button hu ?!!! every thing seem in order !!!!

i wanted to kill the ignorant bastered :D

Well you should definately notice a difference in where the air is coming out by switching the buttons around (face level etc), particularly if you turn the fan speed up. If there isn't a difference then this is a definate fault.

Climatic and climatronic are different.

Do you have manual climate control or duel zone automatic climate control?
