rough idling and emmisions light on

Featured Replies

right chaps the mrs is running a 1.6 petrol at the moment, only just bought the car and the emmisions light has appeared and its very lumpy at idle, had it plugged into a cheapo scanner and it has thrown up a lambda probe fault. problem is the previous owner told me it had not long since had a probe fitted . now i'm obviously very dubious about whether it has now. is it worth buying a genuine one (not a bad price as i work for tps) or has anyone got any ideas as to what else could be causing it, any help will be much appreciated!

i'd replace the Lambda for a kick off. Other things to do are replace the coolant temp sensor, & remove & clean the throttle body.

Not sure if the 1.6 is like the VRS but the VRS has two sensors, one before and one after the CAT. which one did they replace?

might also be a vac leak causing the code? is the code for mixture out of parameters or fault in sensor?

right quick update replaced the front lambda last night and its made no difference at all, also replaced the coolant temp sensor. going to plug it back in and write down exactly what the code is to give you guys a better idea, yes there is 2 probes on it but i'm sure the fault code was for the 1st pre cat one. back to the drawing board!
