K04 conversion on mk1 octy vRS

Featured Replies

hi, im looking into a k04 turbo for my mk1 octy vRS and wondered if anyone knows exactly what i need to do it, is it a direct bolt on or do i need

1. big boost pipes? (diameter wise)

2. new coolant pipes to the trubo?

3. new manifold?

4. exhaust to fit turbo?

and so on, im not a novice with cars but a bit of a novice with turbo upgrades,

many thanks,

oil and water lines for k04,

manifold

downpipe to suit

Turbo intake pipe

injectors

map to suit

all widely available second hand on places like edition 38 and seatcupra.net

you might also wanna upgrade the brakes and susension aswell if you havent already

you will be better off sticking a k03s hybrid on as you dont need to change exhaust or intake side and with a good map will see more power than a standard k04 setup

what does a ko3s hybrid consist of?

I think its just K04 internals inside a K03s housing?

depends on what company makes it and what stage hybrid you want

but pretty much a reworked k04 internals in side the k03s housing and rs6 exhaust side good for 280 has seen 290's

witht he right setup

p.s have you got things like front mount tip pipe full exhaust on your standard k03s ??

i have atm front mount, kn cold feed induction, custom map,

is there companys out there that sell ko3s hybrids?

http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/product/2897/jbs-04-stage-3-supplied

everything supplied but you would need a turbo back exhaust system to suit (and pay for fitting unless you would do it yourself). Your custom map would then need to be tweaked or even completely replaced to be able to run the hybrid turbo.

And worth uprating the brakes and suspension first :thumbup:

dont buy the above very overpriced

you might want to get a exhaust and tip on yours and run a stage 2 map you will notice a big difference

have you done suspension mods to yours???

if you havent then all i can say is you are doing the tuning thing the wrong way around simples

its not all about power if your car cant put it down or go around bends lol

if you really want to go k04 im sure it can be done for around £1000

but i doubt your ready to do this looking at the mods you have done as you are still only going to be stage 1 around 210 bhp still another few ponies to come from that setup.

p.s cr turbos/ turbo dynamics all do the hybrid and yes it will req a full remap again around £500

good luck dont run before you can walk

very true clive

I just had coilies fitted and the car is so much quicker through corners and quicker at accelerating because the front end doesn't lift up like it used to.

Suspension and brakes first then you realise even the standard 180bhp is pretty quick

Also, i have to say that my octy with k04 and mods runs exactly, and I mean exactly, the same as a friend's a3 with k03s and about the same mods. The only difference is I got all kinds of stuff in my car (like a sub & spare wheel lol) while his is empty, but still, no difference. Makes you wonder if k04 is worth it :)

ill be selling my complete BAM 225 engine and k04 soon if your interested

I thought that you had to replace the engine internals once you got past 250bhp for the BAM ones at least? Or you end up with melt down?????

nope the bam engine is even stronger than any other 1.8t engine and has a part forged bottom end and will take over 300bhp

a mapped bam will see around or just over that figure lol

Edited by westallc

Thats what i mean. The standard engine in the vrs can cope with about 250bhp??? I'm i right in my thinking about the standard lump? but the BAM is alot stronger.

no a standard engine is good for up to 300 and a bam a little bit more

its more the torque that kills them

you only need to think about upgrading bottom end when going big t

i have coilovers on mine, with decent set up and tyres, handling isnt a problem ;) all im lacking now is the power,

so you have done polybushing. bigger arbs, strut braces etc etc ???

what are you running power wise now???

whats your cars full spec ???

if you want more then your best bet is to go down the k03s/k04 hybrid road should see you 270+ bhp

bam injectores s/h £100

3 inch maf s/h £30

4 bar fpr £20

4 bar fuel pump £50-100

hybrid unit £750

gaskets and coolant etc £50

mapping £500

can you just swap over to the 3 inch maf or do you need to rewire them or anything?

can you just swap over to the 3 inch maf or do you need to rewire them or anything?

straight swap wiring wise, its the TIP that requires altering or a bit of work to fit the bigger maf and the airbox will need fettling

thats good, so if i have the ko4 stuff here just swap over and all is good?

ok heres a question for you what about the swapping over to the inlet that points the other way and the turbo piping could i use that on the engine without it hitting anything?

trevorb33 has a bam engine in his octy, i think the inlet is the opposite way to the auq so i think you should be ok

what i mean is it possible to swap to that inlet style or is there more to it

oh rite get ya, would be more to it than a straight swap ie wiring extended for tb etc. i'm not 100%, are the ports the same? maybe look into a better manifold to fit your engine apr like clive had.

well i have a full ko4 engine, obviously i want the main k04 parts but also i want to keep that k04 way of piping for a stock look if i can.

im not sure on the best way of doing my ko4 conversion, ie skoda ecu skoda loom but whole k04 engine with lengthend wires plus god noes what else OR k04 parts on the octavia engine and try to get the inlet and turbo piping to fit
