I'd be interested to see how you get on. I nipped into Hull on Monday and had a look under the covers at a red one with a black roof. I must say that the build quality from first glance looks quite good to be honest. It's definately not as mean as the vRS mk1.

It's not got that wow factor to make me want one, but it looks okay!

I would like to take one for a spin, but not sure if i would buy one.

I sat in the red one in the showroom on Friday. Didn't feel at all special though looked workable. Nice instruments but otherwise it's got that "cheap and cheerful" look that's inherent with a Mark 2 Fabia (which is why I've just bought another Mark 1 - besides the high cost of the new one).

The salesman had driven it. Everyone I speak to at my garage is unenthusiastic about the Mark 2 Fabia generally and he was particularly down about the vRS. He can't understand why it's not a diesel again...

like with the Octavia vRS and most sports hatchbacks nowadays, they should offer both a petrol and diesel version. You're always going to get someone complaining they didn't do the other engine....

I know I'd pick the petrol if buying a MK1 again ;)

Well i drove the Mk2 Vrs yesterday and i can safely say that although it's a nice car in its own way i won't putting an order in for one myself. In comparison its better equipped with passenger, driver and curtain airbags Hill hold control, 17" alloys, ipod connection, led daytime running lights, tinted windows, leather steering whell with functions and theres more choices for colour combinations.

The new interion has god and bad sides, it feels quite spacious and the new all black seats are comfortable and will be a million times easier to keep clean than the old ones, but the interior feels very plasticy and cheap. The gear lever is a case in point, its a horrible black palstic affair and although you don't have to touch it much everytime i looked at it i could'nt help but feel a tad sick. The steering wheel felt too large and the wheel itsself is extremely ugly.

The performance of the car was good, but you didn't have the diesel "kick" and the DSG gearbox definately holds it back alot! The gearshifts were quite smooth albeit the paddleshifts were hesitant, as if you caught it by surprise when changing down. It holds the road well but it has the same problem as the MK1 as it feels quite wallowy. Skoda are marketing this as a "hot" hatch which it certainly isn't.

From an aesthetic point of view the car looks well presented with the large alloy wheels and subtle bodykit with rear diffuser but i feel it would be very bland in certain colours. It suffers from the same problem as the mk1.... monstertruckitis. You could park a jumbo jet in the wheelarch gap!! The looks are just so uninspiring and i think it will be older midlife crisis inflicted men that will buy it.

So given the choice between a brand new Vrs or a remapped old one, the old one would get my vote anyday.

wallowy, bland, old man's "hot" hatch? so it is in fact damn near a direct replacement for the mk1 vRS :p

I don't see how the DSG can be holding it back. There is no torque converter loss as in old style auto boxes. Still an ugly car though, completely wrong look for a hot hatch IMHO.

The old vrs could never claim to be a hot hatch, it was a small economical "warm" hatch, nut floss are marketing the new vrs as a hot hatch which it isn't. It's not gonna keep up with costs vxrs, 197 clios and such like. Dont get me wrong the dsg gearbox is Good but it just doesn't have the fun factor a manual box has.

Dont like the new one at all, !
