Funny noise from engine bay

Featured Replies

Ok had the bonnet up today with the ignition on and noticed i have a funny sound coming from the black box top left of the engine bay.... vaccum accumilator???

The best way to describe it is like a very very quiet version of the 'headlight on' buzzer you get when the ignition is off and you open the drivers door!!! If you turn off the ignition the noise stops after a few seconds but as soon as you turn it back on again it starts again. You can only hear it when the bonnet is up too that's how quiet it is. As soon as you put the bonnet down and try and listen for it you can't hear it.

Anybody any ideas??? Is it the vaccum accumilator that's buggered?? Or is there something i can try before taking it in to get fixed?? Also thinking about it....... I'm assuming that it's not too difficult to replace anyway just diss off the hoses and unbolt it then put the new one in and reconnect the hoses etc.....???

Cheers

Dave.

Does it feel/drive any different?

It's called the vacuum control unit, and faint buzzing is normal. It control VNT/N75/EGR/Airbox changeover flap.

Mines made that noise for the last 35k or so (on 147k nearly) told nothing to worry about, sometimes seems to make the noise for longer and other times don't notice it.

Does car run OK?? YES !! close bonnet and forget about it.emoticon-0148-yes.gif Stop scaring yourself.

Cheers guys....... All seems to still be running ok..... It could be that it's been doing this for ages as it's only because i had the bonnet up and the ignition on for the first time i can remember that i heard it.

I'll forget about it for now and maybe just check every so often to see if it gets any better or worse.

Cheers

Dave.

The boys at unit 18 diagnosed a problem with the anti shudder and throttle shut down which can cause engine over run. Its very common and apparently Skoda are aware of the problem and have released a revised part to combat the problem.
