when other octavias getting daylight running lights

Featured Replies

Hi

Ordered a 1.8T DSG L&K, wife's VRs has DLR lights which is EU law from 2012 I gather, any idea when it gets put on the other Octavias???

Where is the best direct source of info on this??

Presume my ordered car, last weekend, will be biult week 45-ish.

Ordered it with paddles as need phone in the car too.

Getting a fuel car for both private and work mileage I gather but cannot find good doc explaining tax implcations so hope petrol is not too an expensive choice over diesel but really wanted zing of petrol.

Lots of questions, hoping the knowledge is out there.

They can be activated by a stealer or a nice member with a VCDS, of which there are plenty.

The L&K will have DRLs but they will not be the same LED ones as on the VRS as these are exclusive to the VRS.

Your L&K will definately have them.

The vRS has the horizontal strip of LED's just above the front fogs, non vRS Octavia's have an additional halogen bulb next to the front fogs.

As others have mentioned whether or not they will be 'activated' on delivery is another question, it seems a bit hit and miss.

Either way your dealer can turn them on for you prior to delivery if need be.

DRLs can be easily switched on with new Octavias - even dealers who struggle with re-coding the car seem to have that one sussed. You'll have a secondary bulb in the fog light housing which lights up if the ignition is on but not the headlights. Alternatively, you can light up the headlights using North American (on when handbrake is off) or Scandinavian (think Saab/Volvo) settings.

I am very interested in your comments. I have a (May) 2010 Octavia Elegance. It has Maxidot and the DRL lamps are physically in position. I have asked my Dealer to activate them; he contacted Skoda UK with my chassis number details etc and after (presumably) having had their response gave me the reply "it can't be done on your car". From trawling the internet, VCDS etc, I think it is a question of "won't" activate them rather than "can't" since with Skoda for some obscure reason DRLs seem to be the preserve of the top of the range models - bit daft for what is supposedly a safety feature. If anyone has more info on this it would be much appreciated.

Your dealer is having a laugh!

Take it to another Skoda dealer who has a clue about the cars they sell

Vagcom do a job in 2 minutes :)

Did this myself on FL Ambiente 2009

My car is a year older than yours - different engine, otherwise the same vehicle - and I assure you that my DRLs shine brightly since my local dealer switched them on. If I had VCDS, I'd have done it myself, it seems one of the easiest of adjustments. Definitely a case of "can't" vs "won't" vs "still don't understand the question".

Very interesting - a few questions....

Do you have Maxidot and if so has DRL now become a selectable item on the Maxidot menu?

Did your Dealer charge you for activating DRL?

Do you know if you were a "first" or has he done it for other customers?

Appreciate your response as I am getting my ammunition together to go back to Skoda. I am just not happy with the "can't be done on your car" response.

On the Superbs, if you have Maxidot , you can turn them on or off yourself. I would have thought the Octavias would be similar!

You can, via Maxi-Dot, but they have to be enabled first. I had mine via my dealer and I now have the option myself.

Unfortunately, no. I have Maxidot but it is definitely not on the menu. I also have the Light Assist package. I am convinced that all it needs is a simple software change to add it to the Maxidot menu.

This is a picture of my maxidot, sorry it´s in Portuguese.

First 2 are in english

Did you have this done recently, and was there a charge? Was it just a case of connecting the car to their workshop computer? Thx in advance..

1. Yes, and yes - it wasn't there before as an option, but is now.

2. No, it was in for other work at the time so it got lost in the mix.

3. They understood immediately what I was talking about, so I have to assume they'd done it before

As an aside, a colleague of mine had his switched on by a different dealer (FL again, maybe Sept 2009 plate), and he did *not* have the option appear in Maxidot. So not all changes are created equal... but it should still be possible.

Thank you for the photo. I have all the functions you have, but not Item 3! I guess Portugal maybe already has legislation requiring DRL?

My Octavia was picked up a month ago. It has de after week 22 changes.

It did not como with DRL activated.

The latest software at Skoda dealers have this option. But some donnot know how to work with it. It was done at another Skoda dealer, not the one that sold me the car.

It took 3 minutos to program it on the car.

Soon with the VAG-COM I will activate the corner lights and the second fog light (passengers side)

You can see my Octavia

Check out this site and go to page 8 and 9.

Anyone can put DRL as long as you keep to the measurementes.
