What HAVE i Done!

Featured Replies

The missus is not happy lets put its that way.

Been looking for a "project car" for some time now and yesterday took the day off work and went to "speak to a man about a dog!"

Anyway, i knew nothing baout the car that was described but had only heard rumours. Got there and before me sat a little tame lookign piddly figure of a daihatsu charade. However, this little wolf in sheeps clothing had a little tiny sticker saying GTTI on the back. And holy crap, i got in the thing, went for a test drive, All seemed normal) Put my foot down and whoosh, thought an atomic bomb had exploded behind us and we were being carried along in the shockwave. JESUS! i shouted.

Enough shown there, quickly turned the beast round and parted with my cash.

What a little beast. Anyone else had any experience of this thing? And also anyone have any ideas how this can be justified to the missus????

As standard (just to give you an idea) this thing can do o-60 in 7.3 FROM A 993cc engine!!!!

Nice little runabout for her?

Rob.

Sounds good fun mate...

Going off topic slightly I notice you only get 169 bhp from Revo... did you request a coservative map there?

I remember watching a re-run of Clarkson test driving a red one of those way back in his leather jacket, jeans and semi-afro days. He was well impressed, especially with the rain sensor for the wipers (cutting edge for the early 90s) ;)

I don't think the Japanese had invented K-cars back then, but I did consider a Daihatsu Copen before I realised that I'd only be able to fit in it with the roof down, peering over the top of the windscreen! ;) It's all about power-to-weight ratio in tiny turbo screamers :):):)

Another mental and very rare car is the Nissan March (Micra) Super Turbo, which was a 900 cc supercharged + turbocharged car with 110 bhp in a car that weighs as much as an empty crisp packet. 0-60 was about 7 seconds.

Just tell her to shut up and get on with the cleaning:D

Know one of the Scoob lot bought one as a play thing. They may just have a 3 cylinder engine but they weigh about the same as a crisp packet and can be tuned up to around 130bhp just by upping the boost! Not a great top end due to the small engine but off the lights and through the gears (abiding by speed limits), it's a rocket :D

The 0-60 is phenomonal! Relaly is superb, I have tried the whole "well its a nice little runner for you" but she is too **** scared to get in the thing after seeing me go in the thing!

P Birkett, no the 169 is what i say it is as i have not had it on a rolling road and dont want to be dissapointed, ive gone witht he "aim low and get high routine".

Gonna get me an afro wig, red leather jacket (like michael jackson in thriller) filofax and massive mobile phone. GET IN!

We almost bought a Suzuki Cappuccino few years ago... lovely little 600cc jobbie.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

standard figures aren't amazing, 99 bhp, 57ft/lb 0-60 in 14 and 90mph

Are you sure your looking at the GTTi Version?

It has appeared (im reliably informed) in both EVO & Autocar's top ten hpt hatches of all time lists.

101 bhp standard, weighs "as much as a crisp packet" and standard pushes around the 7second mark.

The one i have has, however, been modified, so im currently (not officially) cruising around 6 seconds i think! (dont quote me on that)

993(?) turbo, looked on topgear and this should be it

might want to go here for info, looks like topgear might be wrong

Everything you need to know is here

:wrthless:

680kg  I knew it was light, but with 101bhp as standard, that's equivalent to a power-to-weight of almost 150bhp :D

Chris

beat you to it jimmy, woo i won for once!

Hehe

Welcome to the fun world of GTti's

Come enter my aladins cave

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m6b0s0p0

I have had 5 GTti's and still own 2 of them

You cannot buy a fun car like this shocking build quality of plastic etc as you say weighs as much a crisp packet but what they saved on the decor etc they certainly ploughed back into the engine

Forged Pistons

Toughened Rods

Hardened crank

You don't get that in an EVO :D

The engine is a gem if looked after

Watch for rot in

Sills and rear arches

Front wings Both Inner and outer

Look for cracks in front inner wings easy to fix but normally caused by hump back bridges at 50+

Try to keep boost under 14psi

REGULAR OIL CHANGES USING FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL 5w40 10w40 or 15w50 dpending on climate and how you drive it.

With a few mods they fly 0-60 in around 6 seconds and standing qtr in about 15 dead. Only good for 0-100 they do ok at higher speeds but the acceleration is depleted but they can still pull away from run of the mill with ease.

Enjoy

ps Tell the wife to sod off, if she don't like it just demand sex constantly and point out if you had a project you wouldn't be so randy  :D

Those things are like nuclear powered roller skates - a mate in work had one - sound great go well cheap as chips and noone knows what they are - fantastic!

Back in my boy racer days, (erm yes ok, i still am one) 1990 onwards, they were the car for hooligans in the know. Everyone laughed, but they minced Rs Turbo's etc. Fantastic little car you have there mate. I havent seen one for years. Good to know they are still about. :D

Very quick little car but i understand they were susceptible to overheating. No suprises there given the performance. I think they were 1.0 litre 12 valve turbo charged and from what I remember they hadled pretty good too. Ground clearance wasn't great but who cares. they also rusted a damn site less than a Fiat Uno Turbo. Always wanted one but hard to find a cheap on ein good nick.
