Ocvty Mk1 Seat Upgrade/Replacement

Featured Replies

I've searched hard here but can't find a definitive answer to the question:

Which other VAG seat fit the Mk1 Octy, and which ones are the best upgrade?

I've got a Mk1 4x4 turbo (with 225 Jabbersport rechip) and would like better, sportier seats.

vRS seats seem over-priced, although I quite like them (had a vRS before)

Golf Mk4?

R32?

A3/S3?

All advice welcome

Any MK4 Golf and MKI A/S3 will fit the MKI Octavia, the Golf rear seats also fit.

I too have 4x4 and I got a set of Golf Mkiv GTTDi seats from a 51/52 plate so they also have the lumbar adjustment. They are SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the Elegance seats, really good side bolsters that help with cornering quite a lot :D and as a bonus they also have the side airbags unlike the vrs!! If you are uber lucky they also did them in the Bora in black leather but again make sure they are post facelift 51plate or later.

the holy grail of seats seems to be the r32 in black leather like billy2981

S3 seats are the same/similar as fitted to Aston Martin vantage :D

but if he thinks vrs are expensive then that rules out r32 s3 etc etc seats as they go for alot more

golf gti recaro's are you best bet but still similar price to vrs seats

vRS seats really aren't up to much as seats go IMO - genuine Recaro is the way to go. S3 seats "look" good, and indeed are as long as you aren't too tall, but if you have long legs try them first, as I find them much too short in the base and don't support the whole legs sufficiently.

Thanks for all your helpful advice guys - I think what I meant was that was that vRS seats are overpriced for their comfort and support - Recaros are the real thing (had some in a Scooby a few years ago).

The comments on the S3's are interesting

I'll see what eBay throws up.

Next is suspension and exhaust (already done the brakes)

The objective is a vRS lookalike with 225 plus 4x4 wolf in sheeps clothing...

what brake upgrade have you gone for? mine is running the 312mm discs at the moment but looking at brembos on 330mm discs if I can sort out carriers

But don't all of the S3 Recaro's have an extendible seat squab? The ones i have seen have.

yes they do lol

also i found the vrs much nicer than the s3 seats thtas why i sold my s3 ones to slippy in corners and to hard for long drives

I just went for the 312 fronts (because I wanted something that would fit inside the std 16" wheels - for winter use) with the fancy EBC drilled and dimpled discs - noisy but incredibly effective upgrade.

Rears are standard - seemed like a lot of hassle to fit the vRS vented type.

You really don't want vRS seats - no airbags in them

Your airbag controller will chuck out fault codes if you don't fit seats with airbags.

If you want something cheap, thats 95% of a R32/S3 seat, have a look a SEAT stuff.

Toledo's and Leon's had really good electric leather and leather/suede seats, and you can pick them up on ebay for £200 - £250

Suede seat bases are ( in my humble opinion ) better than tanned leather, as they hold your backside in place better.

similar to what im building :giggle:

You may want to reconsider that :o

The rear single disc on the 4x4 are truely naf.

I've just had to upgrade, as the rears were over 100 degrees hotter than front.

Disc warping territory !

The rear upgrade is direct bolt on.

Interesting observation - what bits do I need?

Agreed, but not strictly true - it depends on the model year.

Some had airbags in the driver's seat only

Caliper, Discs and pads.

I've got R32/S3/TT units which bolts directly on. Used existing oil lines.

My understanding is, that anything Golf GTI/GTTDI, vRS, Toledo/Cupra should fit.

Even the same size disc, but vented, would be worthwhile upgrade.

ps

It's my understanding that loads of TDI Golfs have vented rears, so might be cheapest source ...

I guess even 1 side airbag is better than none :giggle:

the wrc edition vrs had side airbags ( i thought 2 rather than 1....that would be odd)

strange you prefer suede......leather is easier to wipe clean ;) :p

I guess if you soil your seats often .... peeing.gif

seriously?? We use solid standard rear discs on the TT we race - thats 2wd, 400+bhp with Alcon 6-pots and 335mm on the front

Maybe 4x4 has a load more rear bias?

S3 extendable seat squab - yes I believe they do, but even fully extended I found them too short :( nothing I have found has ever got close to the leather Recaro's that Ford used in the Sierra Cosworth IMO . They fitted and supported properly, so no worries of sliding around, I did plenty of trackdays in that and never found any shortcomings of those seats, lovely :)

The rear LSD and Haldex Clutch unit are slighly heavier than the gearbox @ the front, which is quite a bit of weight.

so guess there would be a bit more rear bias to compensate ...

All I can really tell you is what my tuner found after testing.

He had removed my 4 pot Brembo 330mm front setup and fitted a CompBrake 6pot 330mm front setup.

He recommended I upgrade the rear ASAP.
