MY2011 Octavia...how to identify?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My Octavia was planned to be built on the first week of the MY2011 switch over... however it arrived slightly earlier at the delaers than I expected so my have been built the week before. So how can I check if it really is a MY2011 car? As it's an L&K I think the differences were just one of the switches?

I guess it's not a big deal, but it would be nice to know.

You need to put the clutch down to start it. Assuming it's a manual.

Is that a standard mandatory starting technique for all manual transmissions across the whole MY2011 Octavia range (including the Scout)?

Hi James,

Thanks for that. Yes it's a manual and it does ask me to depress the clutch when I turn it on so. MY2010 it is! Great.

I remember trying to start my fiancee's Jetta in Arizona and spent 5 mins trying to get it to work, i had to go back inside and ask, she laughed at me and said press the clutch in. I'm not sure why they do that!

Been doing that for years! A.) because I always park in gear and B.) I belive it puts less strain on the starter motor doing it this way.

Eh? James' answer would suggest yours is a 2011.

Yes sorry just a typing mistake. MY2011.

This was a technique i was taught when learning to drive, as a safety tip, to always depress clutch before starting, specially in a strange car as previous driver may have left it in gear. Also you may have left it in gear as well & not remembered.

It stops you catapulting forward if the car has been left in gear. Looks like nanny euro state has told the car manufacturers to put this in as a safety feature. emoticon-0145-shake.gifemoticon-0145-shake.gifemoticon-0145-shake.gifemoticon-0145-shake.gif

Arent the lights different from previous MY the newer lifted ones ?

I always depress the clutch on any car I'm starting , its a habit I learned after reading the manual for my first Skoda (1.8T Octavia SLXi) they reccomend it in the manual of my current Fabia as well , it does indeed put less strain on the starter motor.

Just check the chassis number, 8th digit form the end;

A = 2010

B = 2011

Also can be the difference between starting and being stranded if you've got an old banger with a flat battery that hasn't been serviced for a while and its cold out.
