what bike rack?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

first post on here, just taken delivery of a Yeti and being a keen mountain biker was after some recommendations for bike racks. Haven't got a tow bar and don't like roof mounted ones, limits the choice a bit I know, any help gratefully received thanks,

mark.

Check out Lady Penelope. She's got a bike rack on her Snow Monster.

Well, if you haven't got a towbar and don't like roof mounted ones, I can only think you mean a rack which fits on the tailgate or an internal one. I've got the Skoda internal one as I like the extra security it provides. Leaving the car anywhere with a £2,600 mountain bike on the tailgate is not something I would be happy doing.

Here's my thread showing pics.

A friend of mine has just bought a Roomster partly because of the internal bike rack - again, he has an expensive bike and also probably appreciates not having to lift it too far.

Just remember you can only use the internal bike rack if you don't have a spare wheel or if you take the spare and the boxes out first.

I was not going to get a towbar but after seeing Lady P's rack (apologies Lady P emoticon-0136-giggle.gif , I'm trying not to be rude) I decided to add the towbar to my car - which can be fully fitted by your dealer regardless of you having factory fitted tow bar prep or not.

Apart from being able to add the bikerack it also means never renting a van again as you can rent trailers for every need you may ever want from places like Indespension. I know the towbar is not cheap but you can get an ugly permanently fixed one with old fashioned twin sockets from about £280 up to £600 for a removable one that is hidden behind a cover in the bumper. And I'm sure it will add to resale value come selling time as the Yeti will become saught after tow cars I can asure you.

towbar is also useful to avoid parking bumps by others. I can reccommend a Maxxraxx towbar mounted rack.

I second the internal bike rack. It's not cheap, but it's a good piece of kit and holds the bike securely. I really like the fact that it keeps my £4k road bike away from prying eyes, in the back, which with the rear sun shades, you cannot really see in through the side windows.

This was one of the factors that really swung the decision towards the Yeti for me. Why don't other manufacturers offer something like this?

Here is my previous post on the subject with some pictures.
