Been wanting to try this since I got my car nearly three years ago!!! Are all the parts numbers quoted the same for a Skoda? Can some one post up a pic of there factory fit interior auo-dimming mirror/light sensor to compare? The item on e-bay is that already covered in the list if parts quoted?

The parts list covers all the cables and connectors to make the loom however for the price I would go for the ebay item. To be honest the wiring looks easy. The only thing that I can see being a pain is getting the old mirror of the windscreen.

Thanks guys for all the posts and photos, think I am going to try this. Have found alot of the parts on e bay.de which should bring the cost down as opposed to buying via a VAG dealer. Quick query though, the actaul light sensor is listed as 1K0-955-559-R in the article but there seems to be many variants available, part number ending in R, AH, K etc....does anybody know which variant is used in the octavia 2?? Is it the exact same as Golf mk5???

Don't you need a special windscreen to retro fit the rain sensor? Could make the job £££

No take a look at the pdf guide above the guy has taken the old mount of and glued the new one to the windscreen. The light sensor then attaches to the new mount along with the auto mirror.

Thanks for the info ollybroad and to simbo for the photos. I am going to order a loom and the next steep is to order the other parts. Does anybody happen to know the skoda part numbers for a black mount, rain sensor, black auto dim mirror and a tunnel light switch for a car with front and rear fogs? Im asking as the mirror on the golf in the DIY guide appears to be slightly different shape to the one in the octavia...

N00b question this probably, but if you have auto wipers, does that also mean you can also setup auto lights? Saw the option in VCDS while I was browsing the other day, but wasn't sure whether they'd work with just a change in coding...

Skoda and vag parts numbers are the same as it's the same part.

1K0 857 511 9B9 interior mirror, anti-dazzle satin black £38.85

1K0 845 543 retaining plate for interior mirror £4.64

1K0 955 559 AH rain sensor £134.24

1Z0 941 431 E 3X1 combi-switch for automatic driving lights, side and driving lights, rear fog lamp, fog lights, coming home and home leaving black £48.61

Will do this retrofit once i've finished the retofit of the golf park assist (auto parallel parking). Let me know how you get on.

There was a thread about this on here somewhere but i can't find it due to the "unique" way the search function works :dull:

From memory you need Auto Light Switch, New wiring & coding with VCDS. It can be done and i don't remember it being that expensive.

If i do find the thread i'll link it

Thanks olly, just bought a new AH sensor on eBay for 50 euro so saved a few quid on that. Will take a trip to my local vag dealer shortly to order the rest of the parts.

I'm annoyed I forgot to spec this as an option, as it was only £150. It will cost me more to retrofit it.

Are the wiper control stalks on autowiper equiped cars different to regular? Mine has a control for the intermitent wipe speed, is a stalk change required also to retrofit autowipers?

No i believe the wiper stalk is the same.

No i believe the wiper stalk is the same.

Wiper stalk is he same but you may need a different Central Electrics Control Module if yours doesn't have the coding for it.

Thanks for that carl....might try fitting the rain/light sensor and the wiring, the new light control switch and code the lot and see how I get on. Do you know anything about the central control module? How much would one cost etc....

Another question for u olly, the PDF guide lists two mirror cap covers and trim headliner connector...is this the part that covers the wiring between headliner and mirror? As this article is for the golf would these be different from the octavia, the photos that simbo has supplied look different to the golf...

Cheers...

This is the part you may need ( Can't tell without VCDS to confirm what version you have already)

Screenshot2010-08-11at133209.png

This is the Cost of a new one from a dealer :o :o :o

Screenshot2010-08-11at133227.png

Yes you read that right £264.38

It will be a pain in the arse to get to as well as it is in the same area as the Can-Gateway so is up behind the pedals near the fuse box.

If you have someone with VCDS nearby they will be able to look at your CECM and see if the option is there for Auto Wipers.

Is your car a 07 or 57 plate?

Good news AMB_1

Here are 2 screenshots from both my Octavia's

First is from a Mar 2007 vRS (which doesn't have Auto Lights/ Wipers hence it is not ticked)

Screenshot2010-08-11at141157.png

Second is from a Jun 2008 L&K (Which has both Auto Lights/Wipers which is why it is ticked)

Screenshot2010-08-11at140429.png

As you can see both have the option for Rain/Light Sensor so you should be ok as long as you have that Option

All you should need is New Switch, Sensor, Wiring & a tick in that box and hopefully it should work. You then leave the wiper stalk in the Intermittent position and you adjust the sensitivity of the wiper by moving the wiper speed button. It works from left to right with left being least sensitive & right being most sensitive.
