Ok, my mistake. Thanks for making it clear for me. As far as I know, the Golf pcd is 5x112, as on Yeti, so they should fit. But the wheel youre talking about, is it possible to buy one at a Skoda dealer in th UK?

Yes you can. In fact you were able to buy a complete kit that contained the wheel all the plastic boot bits and the jack and brace. Presume that is still available.

These people (link below) dissmantle Skodas, don't know if they have what you want or if they ship to Norway but you could give them a try, they have an enquiry link. There have been spare wheels and the other parts of the kit on Ebay (link below) but again I don't know if they will ship to Norway. Mytyres will do a complete wheel and deliver (link below). Do you have a second set of wheels with winter tyres? you could use one of those as a spare.

Surprised that in Norway you cannot purchase the parts needed for the spare wheel arrangement, as the parts should be available for if nothing else accident repair.

Pretty sure Agerbundsen over in Denmark has converted his from without spare to with spare by ordering everything needed from the dealer and fitting it himself.

Thanks so much again. Yes, I have a set of winter tyres (all sane drivers have that in this country, some have indeed three sets. Summer, winter without studs and winter with studs), but I'd rather have a smaller wheel in the boot than one of those. I talked to a VW- mechanic yesterday, and he couldn't see any problems using a Golf etc wheel on my Yeti as long as the numbers and size are the same. There is an excellent used car parts site in Sweden, www.bildelsbasen.se which has several VW-wheels but no one for Yeti. Guess there is a reason for that also across our border.

This is the first time since 1978 I have been without a spare wheel, and I really don't like it. A lot of our roads are so crappy that we risk more than a small puncture driving on them. Five cans of whatever it is will not help a bit. I am highly surprised with Skoda's attitude on this issue.

I went to a large Skoda dealer today and argued a bit. To make a long story short, the parts department suddenly said that they had a thin space saver from a Supberb (he thought) from years back, and told me I could try it on my Yeti. Then I took it to a tyre shop and got him to put it on. It turned out to fit 100%. Didn't touch the brake calliper, just turned nice and easy.

Now I have to build a plywood case on which to put the boot mat on. Will publish photos of that later on, but it will be very similar to a homemade model I've seen some other place on this forum.

Not Type Approved for a Yeti, so in the UK it could not be used.

And I would be very worried about the load rating of that tyre/wheel combination.

I guess it's not approved here either. But it fits, and it takes up minimal of space in my boot. And, if I get a flat, it will be used for a few miles only. Finally, if it's good enough for a Suberb, it's good enough for my Yeti :-)

Funny, we have both and the spare wheel in the golf is the same as the spare in the Yeti. I also use the same winter steelies on the Yeti that I used to use on my octavia (golf, yeti, octavia : basically the same car). double checked it all with the dealer beforehand and they confirm it is OK.

I think that it can depend on how the car is used.

For the past 30 years I have regularly driven long distances, up and down the length of France, (and sometimes Spain), many times through the night and in all weather conditions.

I have the 16" near "full size" spare and for "piece of mind" would not want to be without it - (although it does considerably reduce the boot size which really is annoying).

I would not let the fact that a 16" spare is not now available deter me from buying a Yeti - just buy the bits from VW/Skoda and make up the kit yourself - OK it will cost a little more but it is not significant when considering the overall cost of the car - do let the "control" emissions etc., bods spoil your choice of vehicle - just find a way around them!!

A friend of mine told me he had read an article about the new production manager at VW recently. Apparently he found out that they are making 27 different types of the rear axle for today's Golf models, and he did not like that at all. He wants to cut costs, and one of his main ideas is to standardise even more.

If this number is correct, no wonder it's complicated to find a spare wheel which will fit.
