VW Diesels Hit By Pump Recall

One of 2004's biggest car recalls has been launched. Around 70,000 diesels are affected after a fault was found on fuel pump bolts that may cause fuel leaks.

The problem affects

1.4 and 1.9-litre engines in Volkwagens, Audis, SEATs and Skodas. Only cars built between March and Aug-ust 2004 are involved. The Golf accounts for 20,000 of the recalled motors

My car a vRS Skoda was registered on July 2004 as new so how does one establish when the car was built? This may affect many on these forums so please keep updated as I am concerned myself!!!!!!!!

This has allready been posted up but thanks for the reminder :)

F.Y.I 6042 Skoda's are effected by this rework, and I believe all cars effected should be getting recall notices sent out.

Just as a matter of intrest Ross, is thier a way of reading the build date from the VIN plate?

Mainly so I can buy it a cake for it's first birthday :D any excuse for a party

You can read the model year from the vin plate, but I dont think you can read the month.

Sorry for the blonde moment Ross, but I think my car is effected by this, where would I find 'F.Y.I 6042', is it on the vin plate?

Silly question but have any others among the 6042 had a letter from Skoda yet? I know mine is invloved in the recall and is going in on Thursday for the work to be done but I've got nothing in writing yet.

Ross, do I need to leave the service book out on the pasenger seat for this one? I assume I need some record of the work being done for when it comes time to sell the car (some years from now I hope).

 'F.Y.I.' means 'For Your Information' (in this context anyway). You obviously don't work in an office where this term has become incredibly overused

Dave.

A sticker is placed in the boot next to the spare wheel when the recall has been carried out to show that the work has been done and/or the vehicle has been checked.

Not all of the customers that recieve letters will need work carring out, it depends on what pump is fitted to the car.

Thanks for that Ross.

Have asked before but no-one knew... is this just the PD engines or the TD's also?

Just the PD, the TD doesnt have the fuel pump.

Great, ta...

I had the work done this morning. It took the dealership 3 hours to replace the bolts on the fuel pump while I waited (I took some work with me!).

Car was not even cleaned :thumbdwn:

I was reading about a Toyota recall in Autocar a few weeks ago on the Prius where owners got:

Full tank of fuel

Car valeted inside and out

Bottle of champagne

All us Skoda owners get is a sticker in the boot!

I suppose I'd better wash it myself then!
