Creaking front end.

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently had a creaking noise from the front of the car especially when going over speed bumps.

I took it to a garage and they changed the front arb bushes. Everything seemed fine till about three days later when i got a dull clicking.

I took it back and had the front drop links changed, which made no difference.

I'm still getting the dul clicking over rough roads and when pulling away / braking.

Any ideas please.

I got something like that. Don't know what it is though sorry.

I think it may be a shocker knackered. I'll post here when I cure it if ever

I had this and it was my drivers side spring that had snapped the top coil off.

Did the garage tighten up the drop links enough, as if not they can still move( the bolt from the drop link is thinner than the ARB holes) and cause slight knocking and eventually knacker the drop link again.

Also the front wishbone rear bush if worn can make a dull knock as you get play in the bush. Certainly when pulling away and braking.

Rad mounts can also cause a noise.... Not sure under what specific conditions as this has not affected my car (yet!)

Did the garage remove the 19mm plastic sleeves from the ARB when they fitted the new bushes, and fit the "optional " smaller dia 17mm bushes straight onto the ARB?????

Just wonder cos its usually the plastic sleeves that crack and cause the ARB noise.

Bill.

That's a good point as this is getting more common issues with older VRS's

I doubt a garage would do what you described as they would probably be more inclined to offer a new ARB if they saw damage to the sleeves and would not offer a cheep alternative.

Thanks all for your replies.

I've only just got back from Skeggie and nothing's fallen off yet.

I'll keep you posted about the outcome.

Well thegarage cant look till next week.

I've tried to upload a picture of the ARB if anyone can take a look and see what they think, thanks.

Try and make it a bit bigger.

Use photo bucket to increase the size

Ah, thanks, there you go.

ps. the sound has now gone back to the original clicking over bumps / seting off and braking + creaking again :(

Looks like the plastic sleeves haven't been changed, that sleeve looks very worn. Possibly the bar is also corroded under the sleeves, if they never moved the sleeves they might not have spotted that.
