  • Girls seem to like small french cars- can't for the life of me think why! My daughter loved my Clio, I hated it-piece of french merde. Guess it's a venus and mars thing and as most have little or no m

My wife has driven mine ONCE in 3 months....

Ive had my from new.DSG version

Not happy with the diesel consumption. 19k miles done.

I only get 170 miles from 20L of fuel. thats mixed driving.

Anybody had MPG problems?

Onboard puter tells me Im getting fantasic mileage but tank needle moves to quick for my liking.

1.4 TSI Estate 2012:

+ DSG gearbox, for obvious reasons.

+ Engine. It's very smooth and makes for very relaxed driving with the DSG. It's no Volvo 2.5T, but then again it doesn't gulp fuel like one either.

+ Cabin and boot space is great considering it's a Golf-class car. Doesn't feel like much of a downgrade coming from a V70.

+ Fuel economy

+ Turning radius, (again) coming from a V70

- Heater could be better. Dreaming of a Webasto...

- Main beam is halogen only. Bi-xenon + halogen would be nice. Then again, there isn't a car in the world with a main beam powerful enough for me.

- Road noise with studded tyres.

- I miss the cubbyholes my V70 had under the boot floor. Perfect place to stow jumper cables, tools and so forth.

I would buy one again, and I can't say I'd want to change anything about the spec either.

I've got an Octavia 1.4TSI DSG and a Volvo S80 D5 AWD w/Polestar tuning. And I'm planning to sell ................................... the Volvo. :-)

Octavia Scout -what a car (Provided you take everything the dealer says with a pinch of salt)

I'm getting 49 mpg average fom my Blackline, but have only done less than 1k so far. DSGs do 2.5mpg less on the official combined consumption but your MPL does seem a bit low at 38 mpg, though it's hard to say without knowing what your drivng style is like and what the make up of your trips are.

cheers

New bridgestones fitted yesterday and the mechanic commented on how nice the drive was. I would like something quicker but right now it's comfy, cheap to run and running well so I shall be keeping it for a while yet

900 miles on the clock of a dsg blackline and its awesome ( see some of my other threads ). Used to have a 51 plate vrs as well and had that for 6 yrs and that was also awesome , had a break with a Honda civic type s for 4 yrs and although that had a fantastic vtec engine I'm glad I have gone back to the octavia .... In my cars current trim it's better than I could have hoped for or afforded brand new ....... You won't go wrong with a skoda

Satisfaction tends to alter according to current usage. Traveling down to Frankfurt in winter - needs a better heater, would be nice if it was quieter, wind and road noise can get on your sticky out bits.

Most of the other niggles got ironed out fairly soon.

Wallowy and imprecise - RARB, altered castor via SuperPro bushes and a 4 wheel alignment. Considering BIlsteins (for a while now!).

Brakes - not up to a combination of load, making progress and the Alps. Swopped to 312mm rotors and Pagid pads in the 'Rocco calipers. LIke the idea of DaveB1970 4pot converstion for better modulation and less unsprung weight. Having felt how heavy the hub/brake assy is, every little helps.

Bit more power? No, not really, cruises at an indicated 90 and accelerate to 110. More torque - yes please, but not so much I want to spend £500 quid for it.

Nice to drive (now) and nice to be in. Does everything I need ish. Can't think of another affordable brand I would prefer.

What would I swap it for? Would like to try a Scout. DSG would be nice. CR170? maybe with a Shark TorqueTune! Not sure what toys a Scout lacks over a L&K.

Would never have paid for gizzmos myself, but it was what was available when I needed wheels and now been seduced.

We got rid of a cr4ppy Jag and got the VRS. Best move ever. Better economy, better handling, much better performance, much more reliable. The only thing better in the Jag was the seats but the VRS seats are not far behind.

Well happy although there have been a few annoying probs but so far nothing major. Nothing like the probs with the Jag.

Would get another Skoda.

I'm on my second Skoda, had a fabia vRS before and traded that for my current Octavia. I really like it, cruises along nicely with one arm on the rest, smooth DSG box and toasty butt on these cold winter mornings.

So far so good on reliability, have got a problem with the self dipping mirror on passenger side not moving down but wagging about for about a minute before stopping when I put the car in reverse. Dealer had a look at last service but not fixed, now out of warranty and I'm not too bothered by it so it will stay as is.

Ian

for the last 8 months i've been happy lol.
