Pah! Service warning at 8,400 miles

Featured Replies

I was hoping I'd get a bit closer to the theoretical 20,000 miles before my first services. Ah well!

That's what you get for driving with 'The pedal to the metal' all the time :D

Over 12k in mine and no warning yet...

Seems a bit low....

Mine's done over 13K since the last service, including 2 track days, a couple of Briskoda meets with "spirited" (ahem) driving, a 2000+mile Euro jaunt, work mileage and a fair bit of local stuff.

Still no sign of the service indicator.

(Don't you just know what's going to happen next time i start the car.... )

Sounds like its been set up to fixed servicing to me.

At the service ask them to check the service settings.

Mine came on @ 15K miles, having had a service @ 10K, took it to the dealer, who found that the Oil indicatior time had gone to zero, but there was still 61 days to service. They reset it for me, so will ask them to set all the timings properly, as I am due a 20 K service in 1010 miles.

At least you had the 10k service...lol. ;)

That's the thing - most of the time I don't but obviously I have some fun occasionally!!

Maybe it's 'cos a fair bit of that mileage has been trips of about 30 miles or less around town.

Ah well, I'll call at the dealer today and book it in. Wonder if they'll lend me a Fabia vRS for the day - I'm dying to have a go in one!

Mines just stated to tell me 1000 miles tills service. Its no on 12.5k, so I am not bothered after 20 months :D

Mines done 18300 miles in 21 months and still no service light

20,000 miles and 24 months is the max on yours MisterGT so it should be on soon.

Mine came on at 13,000 something and 19 months from first registration. However, i knew the car was a showroom model, and could have been sat for 5 months doing no miles?

The service indicator should have been reset when you purchased the vehicle at the PDi, but it is variable, min mileage is 9,000 max is 20,000.

Thx Ross, I pretty much believed that would be the case but its nice to have it confirmed by a Master Tech

Got into my VRS yesterday & the service in 1000 miles warning showed. Car has only done 5,600 miles & was registered MARCH 04. Seems very early to me. Don't drive it very hard. Will have to have aword with the dealer.

Make sure its on variable and not fixed servicing. Mine has now done 46k miles and had its 1st service at around 17k miles and its 2nd was at around 36k miles.

I would, even if it is on fixed servicing its still to early anyways.

Hi guys,

Was going to ask about this.

I didn't buy my car from new and am the second owner of it. It's a Y reg and has been serviced every year from new and has 5,700 miles on it. Should I be looking to get it serviced at 10,000 miles or Every Year or wait until service light comes on?

General rule of thumb is 10k miles or yearly..whichever comes first.

Ahhh in that case then probably yearly this year then every 10,000 miles once i start knocking the miles up on it :)

Ta muchly.

:D

According to the service booklet it's on variable servicing (data at the front of the book relating to my car) Thanks for the replies, will be onto the dealer in the morning. Wasn't expecting to pay for a service for some time yet.

That's way outside the mileage parameters for variable servicing, ie 9000 miles up to 20000 miles for the Octavia vRS.

Just spoke to DM Keiths where I bought the car - they reckon if it's on variable servicing it gets to 10k miles or 12 months before it even calculates if it wants a service. So they're going to reset it to variable for me - yaay!

I have just contacted my dealers AUTOSALES at BILSTON, they agree that the service warning should not have come on & will reset it for me. They're going to fix the rattling front speaker at the same time. Sorted I hope.

I was told by a dealer on Tuesday (mind he was a slimey ****) that you couldn't do this on the vRS.

I'm assuming from this that he was wrong. I've just ordered a vRS (not from the slimey dealership), due for delivery in Feb. I do 30k miles per year mainly on motorways, so I'm very interested in having it on variable service. Is this something I need to be telling the dealer ASAP or just sometime before i pick up the car?
