1.8T Lupo by JBS for Mrs Badger. - WOW!

Featured Replies

BIG Thankyou to JBS from Mr & Mrs B

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Collected ickle Lupo from James, Kev @ JBS on Friday for a covert present for Mrs B on Xmas day.

Ickle Lupo was being finally fettled for collection when we arrived. (Mrs B son and me-thanks George )

James took a bunch of pictures which will be available on JBS's website no doubt.

The conversion is superb! I can't quite describe adequately what a top job they've done on the installation.. Clean, neat, factory like but neater..

New motor is a 1.8T, AUM golf motor/g'box, REVO'd 4bar for those who don't know what it was getting.

The 1st drive was 'interesting' and needless to say it will be receiving a Peloquin diff at some point when I can afford it. Reminds me what a little K03 can do with decent code on it... Rapid spool up indeed... something I had forgotten about with my ibiza..

Acceleration is extremely rapid for such a small, light car. Handling has'nt been upset by the extra 20VT weight up front.. (car started life as a boggo 1.0E, 50bhp poverty spec Lupo). Suspension was already Bilstein Sports dampers and Eibach springs.. which work superbly, controlled, firm, but rides bumps very well.

Engine runs my old PACE/Jabba chargecooler, although the pump expired already (well it was only a caravan pump after all!), and I've replaced the pump with the Ibiza's electric water pump now so its better for it. Large 2.5" Dp into 2.5" Jetex centre exit exhaust (not what was ordered, but Jetex sent it by mystake.. and Mrs B likes it so its staying)

The car drives very smoothly, and in the words of Mrs B, drives like the Golf did.. which does'nt sound right, but is actually true.. Lupo which drives as well as the old MK4 Golf we had did. Lupo after all being Golfy replacement for her. Thankfully done very well by JBS, and has delivered all the performance she could want.

I would personally like to publically thank JBS Auto Designs, for their extended hours working towards the end, making sure it was ready for Mrs B on Xmas day. Their quality of workmanship is exemplorary, given this is no easy task squeazing a 1.8T into a tiny Lupo engine bay

It runs Polo/Lupo GTi brakes currently although this week I will see if the SEAT Sport AP's off the enw Cupra will fit on there with 312mm disks... Fingers crossed they do. Should do hand stands afterwards LOL :D

It was a complete surprise for Mrs B and she was VERY VERY HAPPY and overwhelmed at seeing her car appear on Xmas day.

When I get a mo I'll take some piccies and post em up..

Beware of an ickle blue lupo round and about.. it goes like stink.

(940kg and ~200bhp makes for some good fun)

Thanks James, Kev and all @ JBS.

Wow... So the beast finally lives :D

Merry Xmas to mrs B indeed, thats one hot shoppin trolly

and a  to JBS from me... no doubt ill be seeing them sometime in the NY (for undisclosed work) ;)

Thats a proper stealth Lupo I reckon! Although I'm assuming it'll have to run 17" alloys to fit nice brakes under it? :D No IHI turbo conversion planned then to get around 400bhp per ton? :)

Nice! I had considered a Lupo GTi before the Fab, but couldnt live with the boot space :(

Having seen the green Venom/Jabba Lupo with the S3 engine in it I can appreaciate what has gone into that. I also fitted a 1.8T into a MK4 Polo whilst at AmD (and no it isnt the same as an Ibiza) so hats off to them.

Looking forward to the pics.

 200bhp Lupo  Serious power there nice very nice!!

Now that sounds interesting, hope everything goes well.

and the brakes... 256mm std Lupo GTi currently.. EAK!

so BREMBO's to the rescue... and they fit (just!)

big-brake-little-brake.jpg

AP SEAT Sport ones I was hoping for with 312's did'nt fit..

Diff is a must have with this car.. next thing on the to do list.. just after the "must win lottery" entry.

Some cast off's from Ibiza being the PACE/Jabba Chargecooler, although with new pump cos the original one expired already.. (runs SEAT Ibiza electric water pump now). Also Lupo will receive my old Brembo setup along with my OZ Supertourismo wheels to clear em.

1st, 2nd, 3rd gear spins up in the thing.. Needs new tyres me thinks as well as ATB diff (Peloquin)

She was driving with a big grin earlier today... and I can't keep my hands off the car.. What a great toy it is.

Thanks JBS.

This one does'nt run a front cross member installation.. MK4 Golf engine mounting and loadsa room at the rear for bigger turbo install (IF) it ever needs one.

It will keep my ibiza honest I think.

Lots of work involved by Kev & James @ JBS.. engine mounts and chassis legs modded not that you would notice now... Stealthy/factory look to it.

LOL I know what you mean.. and this ones worse.. batteries now in the boot.. along with CD changer so little actual space for shopping after all

Correct me if I am wrong but was that not the GTi model, I know it has the exhaust and spoiler but it doesnt look like it was the GTi? What did she start life as?

Must say that is a truely lovely conversion. :)

Cheers for the piccies, i know now not to bother racing it if I ever see that car :D

From the front it looks like a sweet innocent little Lupo! awwwww. ;)

Loving the under the hood shots.

 Thats cool. Very stealth.

Poverty spec 1.0E model and a massive 50bhp too

940Kg std tho :D

Bill,

We mounted the engine in Polo with the Golf mounts aswell, modding the inner chassis legs so it was swung and one pendulum mount at the bottom, rather than the two at the back and one at the front mount layout.

Does make more room, the complicated bit on the Polo was getting the downpipe right, it had to come down and under the subframe as theere was no room above it, I also conveted the car to run a hydraulic clutch, which was good fun.

Looks good though :)

Bill,

You've gotta put the 1.0E badge on the back.

Yep its got hydraulic clutch and golf pedals..

lots of work.. as you know.

worth it tho. drives sweet as a nut.

Lupo's I've seen have all been cross member MK3 style.. lots of work to do otherwise.. but worth it I think.

plenty of room down the back for DP and bigger turbo... like it needs it.. LMAO

  • 3 years later...

Sorry, just had to bump this thread - i'm in awe.

How much approximately has been spent on this little monster dya reckon?

Found a couple of pics on google of it going around Oulton Park too, and... wow.

I'm looking to get myself a little Fab or Lupo for the cheap insurance, but i think, if it's economically viable, this could be a path to follow once i hit 21 years of age :)

I knew that the 1.8T's were versatile engines, but i had no idea it'd squeeze into one of those!

It cost a fortune IIRC about 10k i think the total bill was for everything

Last time I heard (a year or so ago), the standard JBS 1.8T conversion cost was 7.5k - I think that included the engine, but I'm not entirely sure...

i was quoted 9k by jbs to do a 1.8 20vt conversion to my lupo gti.
