Windscreen wipers squeak

Featured Replies

Has anyone else had this. I don't use the wipers a lot (RainX clears the screen most of the time) but the other day they started squeaking when reaching the park position on every stroke.

Would they have worn out, the car is only 6 months old and has 10,000 miles? Cleaned and polished the screen but haven't had another chance to use them since.

Wipe the blades themselves with some glass cleaner. thats what I do when this happens. should cure the problem.

hth Simon.

I personally would consider the use of RainX on the screen to be a major problem and only use it on the side and rear windows. RainX simply causes the rain to bead up and not blow off at normal speeds and so it is like looking through semi obscured glass. For me any way.

Noise may be due to dirty blades and screen or blades not being at the correct angle to the screen. Blades should attack the screen at the same angle in both directions. A slight twist of the arm may be necessary. I have used two adjustable spanners over the arm. One held steady to avoid damage and the other to twist very cautiously.

Thanks for your answers, I too think RainX is a mixed blessing especially for drizzle in town but on the motorway it is very good for any type of rain. I have washed the wipers and will see how I get on. Doesn't look like the bank holiday weather is going to deny me a chance to test them.

Rain-X is a pain in the neck in my experience - don't use anything but Aquapel these days :)

I'd clean the blades and glass with some glass cleaner (or vinegar and newspaper) though, as suggested above. Might be that a bit of oil or something has collected on the blades/screen.

Hi guys

I have always found that a small amount of lemon juice rubbed over the blade itself cleans the blade better than anything out there...

I personally found the AutoGlm window compound fantastic even at low speeds and with drizzle.
