Pulsing Problem - Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just had a good search and I think I have a fair idea what's wrong, but I thought I'd list my symptoms and without giving you any clues, see what you guys think...

  • At idle, there is a slow vibration, or more like a pulsing through the whole car
  • Doesn't always happen - when first started it's fine, but drive down the road and stop at traffic lights and you feel the car 'pulsing' (about 2 times a second) - it makes my man boobs wobble!
  • I lifted the bonnet up while it was pulsing at idle, and the whole engine is rocking violently back and forth
  • If you raise the revs slightly, the rocking pretty much stops/calms down to a normal level
  • If I rock the right hand side of the engine by hand, it seems to have a bit more play than the left hand side
  • Power take up is fairly smooth and I think normal, as is cruising and accelerating in gear (I have nothing to compare it to because I've just bought the car and it's my first diesel)

Also, something else I noticed, with the engine cover on the engine looks 'flat' but with it off, the engine looks like it slopes down to the right. I assume that is normal?

Anyway I'm gonna book it into a local VW specialist tomorrow, but just wondered what you guys make of the symptoms?

Oh, and it's a 2006 BLT on 42k miles

Thanks,

Andrew

Engine slopes to the left it's normal. Pulsing likely to be gearbox dogbone mounting, and or LH engine mounting. If the pulsing changes with clutch pressed, it will be the DMF.

Hi,

Just what I thought. No change on clutch up/down that I've noticed.

I did think it was the DMF, but the vibration goes as soon as you pick up the revs... surely the DMF would carry on pulsing, just faster?

I will see what the dub specialist says anyway, they will obviously have more experience than me and I can speculate all day on here!

Oh and thanks for putting my mind at rest about the sloping engine, I assumed it was normal but then had niggling doubts... :)

I agree with his point. The Engine slopes to the left...

I had the same problem in my 2003 Audi A4 (1.9TDI), It wobbled a fair bit, passengers would start to worry that the car was about to explode or something :giggle:

It started to really grate on me after a few years. One of the reasons why i sold the car....but the PD engine is a tremendous workhorse, which is why i just bought a VRS this week!!! B)

  • 1 month later...

Hi, I was just wondering if you got to the bottom of this problem? I've just got a 06 plate VRS and have the exact same symptoms - spoke to the dealer who said they knew what I was talking about but could'nt do anythuing about it as it was a characteristic of the engine

So it would be good to know how you got on?
