airbag check light

Featured Replies

Well I got a problem with my Yeti.

When I collected the car on a way home airbag check light came on. And its staying on all the time. And from me to dealer it takes 5 minutes.

First diagnostics - permanent error ,we have to remove the seat to check smt ,got new appointment.

After few days ,car in ,phone ringringring ,we removed the seat ,there is a problem with something (dont remember what he said) ,we ordered the part. New appointment when part arrives.

Today early car in again ,after few hours ,ringring ,problem fixed ,it was the seat belt tensioner.

Okay ,picked up the car ,on a way home ,surprise surprise orange airbag check light again.

Turned back ,hello hello me again with my orange light. Its back baby.

New diagnostics on friday.

Crap. And in the meantime I drive around with a car with no functining airbag system.

To calm you others(even thought I'm in different country then most of you) dealer said that I'm so far the only one experiencing this problem.

I forgot to ask something else ,it looks like every fifth or so time when I start the car the rear window viper will vipe one time. The front vipers are not on. The car is in neutral or first gear ,not in reverse. No rain sensor.

Is this some function that the car is supposed to do or what? Have not find nothing in manuall. I dont have maxidot.

And as I park in a garage I dont need this as the car is always dry.

I think this is a "feature" as mine does it too. Something to do with the wiper blade not sticking to the glas in the same spot all the time.

You will eventually also note that the front wiper have some intellingence built-in. In a light rain with not too much water on the windshield, the wipers change to intermittent wipe when you stop - as at a red light - and then revert to normal wiping when you drive off. I do not have automatic rain sensor, so not related to that. One presumes it measures the resistance to the wiping and reacts to a r´dry windshield = high resistance.

There also appears to be a speed related change in the wipers - at high speed they wipe faster, but I have not quite figured this out yet.

I notice this for front wipers. Its explained in manual. Interval wiping is connected to speed so if you stop ,wiping stops ,if you drive faster it wipes faster and so on... you said it actually.

I think that this function for back wiper is not so good. It will damage the wiperblade faster and it might scratch the rear glass. As its wiping when the glass is dry(in my case).

Anyway good to know that its not some sort of system error.

A very annoying feature was that the rear wiper would go about every 5 wipes of the front wipers. Thankfully I was able to switch that off through Maxidot. Some designers have too much time on their hands and invent very stupid "convenience" devices.

And then forget to give you some other people are asking for like to be able to switch off the auto close of the internal sun blind on a sunroof when the temperature drops below 5 degrees! Or to give us electrically folding mirrors.

Like Edmundblackadder says, we had the automatic rear wiper operating every five wipes of the front wipers, really annoying on a dry screen! Like him we also switched the function off on maxidot, I don't know if on your model in Norway you have maxidot, if so it can be turned off!

My wife's old BMW E36 3 series did this as well without rain sensing wipers.

All VAG cars have this - without or without a rain sensor. The intermittent speed is always speed related. So as you move the adjuster on top of your wiper stalk you change the intermittent speed. So for example if you do 20 miles an hour it will have 2 seconds between wipes on click one, and at 80 miles an hour it will have 0.5 of a second between wipes. Or something such like. Some have the lovely setting of speed = zero then wipers = stopped even if in intermittent setting (as in the BMW described above). Alas on my A2 they just go to their longest possible intermittent setting but never stop fully when I come to a stop.

On my old Golf V5 the very same toggle switch on top of the wiper stalk adjusted the sensitivity of the rain sensor. So in the exact same way as described above it will make it work faster or slower. So don't think by leaving the wipers in Auto you have no control! You still have full control of the timing between wipes. I had on the Golf anyway. And then when you click the wiper arm on to the next setting above Auto - intermittent - the toggle switch will work as described above.

Sorry, didn't explain the BMW properly:

when in constant wipe mode, when you stopped, wipers went intermittent, which is what I thought was mentioned about the Yeti without rain sensing wipers.

Mine doesn't do this thankfully. It would really aggravate me if my rear wiper dragged across a dry screen. I like the way the front wipers adjust themselves slightly to reduce wear every now and again though.

To close this thread ,my Yeti is healty now. Turns out that some wire from airbag had a bad connection. And it took them one month to figure it out ,lol.

They could not figure out how to turn off this back wiper with computer. Said they'll contact the factory.

But it looks like its not like every fifth start back wiper wipes. It something with if you had front wipers working before stoping the car and then starting the car again and putting in reverse will trigger back wiper to wipe. I read also here on forum similar explanation.
