Poor Radio Reception In Skoda Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Sorry guys if u have covered this, have searched but could find what i was looking for..

got a Y reg octavia vrs, have removed standard stereo upgraded to a sony double din dvd, have been getting poor or near enough no reception at all on the standard aerial or new smaller one i have brought, its rather irritating as i travel to work via bypass and cant listen to my local radio station ...

is there any common faults or issues?

any upgrades or modifications to sort this?

any help would gratefully be apprectiated.

:) :)

You need an inline power supply for the aerial. It has an amplifier built into the base, and the standard headunit sends 12v back up the aerial cable to power it.

Most aftermarket headunits don't do this, so the amplifier in the aerial is not being powered.

Something like this:

It's a 'issue' on most VW group cars, including golfs, leons, toledos etc etc.

as rk says, you need a power injector to supply power to the amp in the aerial base. I needed one when my HU was changed from the stock on to a pioneer unit.

so is that the one on ebay ? where does that wire go to ? sorry for all the questions guys... do halfords stock this or can i do a diy ?

The wire goes to the antenna power (pin 5) pin on the ISO connector. There should be a diagram on the box when you buy it.

Then, basically the end with the cable goes into your HU, and the aerial plugs on the end of the silver part.

Thats just solved a similar problem I have with my new Sony unit... Thanks!

aerial power is generally blue, if people are looking for it around the back of the HU.

May seem a silly question, but how many wires should be on the base of the aerial? I have bad signal and have the aerial power adapter as above and still no good, After taking the head lining off i only have one wire into the base.. Is this normal for an amplifiied one? or shoud there be 2 one for signal and one for power

Many Thanks for help

Wayne

There should only be one. The original headunit sends power up the coaxial aerial cable. That's also what the aerial adaptor thing does.

If you have a tester then just looking for the wire that gives you the 12v when your have your key in and turnd to postion 1 and gives 0v what off and keys out.

I have the same as you but know 100% sorted with Antenna Adaptors PC5-91
