very high mileage vRS

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I don't know how many of you have high ,milers, but I'm looking at an ex police car, that 140,000 miles, it is of course cheap (its an 07 for £5999) , and assuming all broken things have been replaced with new, (it has a full service history) can I expect it to last? it would cover about 10,000 miles a year in my hands.......

Thoughts please!

I know it is a different car but I have a '08 L&K 140bhp with dsg at the moment on loan fromt he dealer I ordered my new car from

It has 94k on the clock and driving like a dream emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I think you could have my VRS for £7,250 (once it's back to standard) with 60k on the clock and have a lot less to worry about!

Thanks for the reply, and indeed, my punto has done 100,000 trouble free miles, and still drives like new, I feel the newer cars, if serviced properly should be ok for high miles, but doing my research first ;)

I would like yours as it is if I could afford it! lol.... however, I doubt youd be interested in part ex, would you? (see link in sig)

I wouldn't buy an ex-Police one. No chance. Won't have been sympathetically driven. Turbo warm up and cool down followed? Forget it :)

Will have been maintained, yes - certainly. But only to keep it running and on the road.

Keep looking is my advice

just been in contact with the seller, says it wasn't ex police, but one company owner, so its an ex company car (FSH) , could be all motoryway..... (its yellow, thought it was a strange colour for an ex-police car) I just assumed as it for sale at and ex-police car trader...... my decision would be based on what they would offer me for mine..... :wonder:

My son's a police response driver and mostly drives Octavias. From what I've heard from him I would avoid an ex-police one like the plague. They spank them mercilessly and they're always getting bashed up. Chances are it hasn't got an original panel left on it. Also they tend to service them themselves, and so probably haven't had the correct spec oil put in them.

sounds like he has fun! ;) yeah, I take what you say onboard, but I have found out its an ex company car not police......

I wouldn't be too dismissive based on the mileage if the car looks OK and the history checks out - my only comment is that the price does not seem cheap enough when there are cars with under 100K available for £7K?

Have a look on autoquake.com, there are two on there at present with under 100k on them, both one owner for £6500 on 57 plates. I just purchased a vRS 2.0TFSI 06, 93K, 1 Owner, fssh, every option except sat nav, and heated seats for £6200. It drives like a new car really and looks far more than a 6k car.

thats reassuring....

and I saw the ones on autoquake... I'm in no rush, but it will have to be a high miler (90k+) to fit my budget...... whoever offers the best trade in for mine will probably make the difference on the car I go for....

Yeah he has a ball emoticon-0105-wink.gif

If it's ex-company with FSH then there's a fair chance it's been well looked after. My previous 2 cars were ex lease and they served me well.

That's not too bad then Dave. But as said, probably better deals out there. Also good to see that they can clearly handle the mileage and are being used as intended :)

Have seen cars from Autoquake before and like how they do things - always tend to be straightforward, clear ads with lots of detail and photos. Just what you want really

Steve

Also might be worth contacting a few dealerships, get them to flag if any higher miled PXs are coming in, that they wouldn't tend to put out on the forecourt. The likes of Allams, Simpsons etc (the good ones basically!) would be worth asking I reckon. You never know what might come up

Cheers,

Steve

I have seen the one your on about on their website,i thought it looks a tidy car,i assumed it was a ex cid car as it has the original skoda radio/cd player in & all the other stuff has a big hole & no radio fitted! :)

That's how I got mine, dealer was gonna get rid of it as a trade sale since it had too many miles for their forecourt. 06 plate with 97k for £5600, pretty decent spec (see sig).

If the car IS ex-company then it is likely to be motorway miles I guess, but ex-police... sounds like it would be worth leaving alone!

Nice one Adam - good to see that it works in practice then

Steve

Mine is coming up for sale, 56 plate, Race Blue, Xenons, Maxidot, Jumbo thingy, 18" Wheels, FSH etc etc 82Kmiles for £6500?

That sounds tempting!

(not for me, for Dave ;))

What do you guys think about this one, http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/12545/sports.htm, its got 120,000 miles, I have the fiat up for sale at £4000, but they said they would give me £3000 part ex... thoughts? its one comany owner and full service history.

edit, the link doesn't go to the car, just search octavia they only have one... didn't like teh sound of the guy when I spoke to him though!

liked the sound of this salesman!

http://www.withamgarage.co.uk/usedcardetail.asp?ref=1417

opinions on that one? I was also offered £3k for mine, I said, thats what other garages have said (i assume they just look it up in the guide) he said "I'm sure we can sort something out, I took the way he said that to mean maybe I could get more....

Like that Combi Dave - but the hatch has more bits on it - dual zone, rear elec windows, Jumbo box etc.

Both would do the trick nicely I think, and £3k PX sounds pretty fair to me. Maybe go for that and look for £500 off the sticker price...

When I was looking for my Octy I read some very negative things about Keighley Sports Perf., all hearsay of course, and don't have any first-hand experience of them, but "buyer beware" all the same.

The name does ring a bell with me, but I'm not sure why. Someone might have shown me a car on there before, perhaps.

They've certainly got a wide range of motors - I spotted a Lambo on the list!

I havent personally been to the first one but have spoken to people that have & all im going to say on the subject is i personally would never buy a car from them. :)
