Skoda not excellerating

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda octavia 2000 1.9 tdi 110 bhp. Can anyone advise why the car is very slow in excelleration? Put a new k & n air filter in but that hasn't made any difference. Can anyone advise please?

Cos' its only got 110bhp :giggle:

Seriously though, do you mean it is slower than it used to be or are you looking for mods to make it go faster than normal?

Has the fuel consumption changed from normal? Has it worsened in other words?

PS - Accelerating

You should get the EGR, Intercooler and pipework cleaned out as these can fill with soot.

Also you will probably find the MAF sensor is worn and if you've not replaced it already I would get a genuine or Bosch one and replace the current one.

The 110 is actually pretty rapid, not earth shattering, but not slow.

The fuel consumption is just the same. It just seems to be hanging back at 2000 revs. Sometimes it releases itself and other times it hangs back again. Can anyone advise if I should have it re-chipped and if so where are the best places, and has anyone had it done?

MAF. Don't try remapping it until the underlying problem is fixed.

Re-chipped? Does this mean you have already had it chipped?

If not then chipping it won't fix a fault that is already there...

]I've just re-charged the battery and gave it a blast and it seems to be working at the correct revs and excellerates well. The battery is only a year old but thought I'd give it a try! I've not had it chipped yet and can anyone recommend it or is it a waste of time.

Puting a K & N filter on a standard diesel is a bit like putting running shorts on your granny . It might look the business but she won't run any faster. All diesels run on an excess air (oxygen) mix with the fuel . i.e. the fuel has more air than it needs to completely burn the fuel . If there were insufficient air the unburnt fuel would be blown out of the exhaust.

I'd get a new MAF sensor and have the pipework cleaned out as I advised above before spending a penny on remapping as this will make a huge difference and if you did it post map, you might need to have the car mapped again.

What mileage is it?

Is it not still under warrantee? Take it back to the dealers

The car is a year 2000 1.9 TDI 110 (probably ASV) it's not going to be under warranty ;) (Should be under MK I not MK II to be fair)

They are well known for the EGR gumming up and the pipework too.

Clean it out, maybe get the EGR blanked off if you want and fit a new MAF if you have not before and it will be like the car had a remap.

Running it where it won't go past 2k revs is only likely to cause the turbo to soot up and then a sticky VNT mechanism will cause even more problems.
