octavia 1.8T remap

Featured Replies

hi i have just bought a 2002 octavia 1.8t 4x4 and was thinking of getting a remap

has anyone remapped theirs and what was the outcome ?

thanks Paul

yes and good, its a ko3s turbo so maps well, pulls well, however if you havent done any chassis or braking mods it will highlight their weaknesses.

thanks for reply, how much did it cost you ? has it affected mpg ?

cost about £399 at the time, however you can get them cheaper, chose your mapper carefully however as some can be smoother than others.

Well mpg in theory increases as the map is fine tuned however in reality you drive quicker so will use more fuel.

My vrs can get about 40mpg if i drive really carefully on the motorway under 70, the 4x4 is less fuel economic so would prob only do around 34mpg in that given scenario.

My mate has a 4x4 map on his old engine (that been taken out for an engine turbo upgrade that pulls like a train), it prob only does about 32ish on the motorway though!

R-tech are good and not a million miles from you.

Pop down and see us if you like, we're only in Mansfield :)

was gonna say actually i hear Ben at Shark and R-tech do decent maps, i have spoken to other members who have run both their maps happily.

My map (the one Oet mentions) is very much a performance map. Not had the car dyno'd, but don't think you can get much more from the engine without modded hardware (the car does have a forge DV, but nothing else).

The downside of my map is 26-28mpg consistent average.

The best average mpg before the map was 34mpg - if you're worried about mpg, the pretrol 4x4 isn't a good choice I'm afraid. Even on diesel platforms, the mpg really suffers from the extra weight on the 4x4 system.

I would highly recommend finding a mapper who can tweak their map - rather than just a purely generic map. That way you can have it tweak more for fuel economy than performance, if that's your cup-of-tea.

As Oet mentions, remapping for performance, without uprating the suspension, is not a good idea. The anti-roll bars supplied as stock on the vehicle are woefully thin, and body-roll is rowing-boat like.

This would be my priority list for upgrading a 4x4:

1) ARB - H&R (I wouldn't bother with R32 ones, still a bit soft)

2) Coilovers - Weitec/KW - you could look at springs/shocks, if tight on $

3) Brakes - Both front and rear OEM brakes are donkey-doo doo (vRS/Golf GTI/GTDI/Leon Cupra/Toledo front and rear discs are a cheap, but worthy upgrade - lots 2nd hand)

4) Map

When looking for bit for the car, don't looking for Octavia 4x4 stuff - their isn't much. You want to be looking for R32 stuff. That's what the majority of the car really is underneath

exactly what snow_muncher says (it was his car i was talking about  )

I can't lay claim to having done the mods on my car (bought modded - see sig ) I have had 38mpg on a relaxed motorway cruising , 28 mpg around town and generally have averaged 34 mpg on my 23 mile trip into work. If I boot it that easily drops to 17 or worse. I would say my car is a very good example of what can be done to a 4x4.

Map wise, it starts to wake up at about 2500 rpm and pulls very strongly from 3000rpm through to 6200. Estimated BHP is 235+ using the std K03s Turbo.

It has generic APR Stage 2 software according to the paperwork that came with it. It feels equally as fast as my remapped Focus ST , and certainly is quicker off the line - the modified Haldex certainly does the job.

nice spec car modra!

thats good you get 38 with relaxed driving, most i could get out of my old 4x4 was 35mpg.

Proof why good maps are important.

Cheers

I am trusting the OBC so that could be optimistic but given the miles and the petrol receipts, it seems to be about right.

Ben @ Shark Performance is sorting my ECU swapping issues (He's extracting the the SKC PIN number from the old ECU).

If you need diagnostics done, he's the bloke to see.

Mansfield based, so not too far from Sheffield.
