PD160 or induction kit?

Featured Replies

i'm looking to get a PD160 air intake and either a green cotton air filter or K and N. but ever since the proce of the PD160 has got very high i could get an induction for simlar money. just would like to know everybodys opinion please. what your running? and what effects would an induction kit have on a diesel as far as noise is concerned because i hate the chavy noise it puts on petrol cars lol

thanks

The existing system is effectively a cold air intake, so why bother putting in an induction kit that will suck in hot air from your engine bay? ;)

Ran a CDA on my fabia vRS and its was an awesome bit of kit :D Shields the heat and gives a nice note (not chavy) to the engine, i'm running an 80mm one on my Octy

any links to this item? how much are we talking?

did you notice any increase in power or throttle response?

Throttle response is improved  gains are negligable...........getting the car RR next month so i'll know how much it gives lol

You can get a BMC CDA for £150 plus or a shielded one from ebay :D

If you dont want to spend that, ebay "carbon fibre induction kits" and see what comes up

This is mine fitted (engine bay needs a good clean

hi, thanks for the quick response :) is that link to the ebay one the one that id need? and is it shielded? it connects up to the original air intake feed so cool air wouldn be a problem?

and also is engine noise under acceleration increased, (i dont want lol) as i tried an induction kit on my renault clio 1.2 16v and it was incredibly chavy and loud and just terrible lol i pick my fabia up on sunday :) (second car lol)

The fabia vrs runs on an excess of air anyway, so i wouldnt worry to much about this mod. I run the pd160 though just for the reduced smoke.

150 could be much better spent; uprated springs and bushes for instance. :)

I'm running this, which is an enclosed filter and increases throttle response and ups power by 20bhp.

Jokes, no power but it does give a nice diesel purr, sounds nothing like it would on a petrol car and gives a deep bellow. It seems to be louder when off power at around 2,000rpm rather than when on power.

for the likes of the bmc cda you'd need the pd160 intake aswel as, as it connects up to the cold air feed, so could be costly for a small mod.

I have a bmc cda

Cost me nothing but pointless

No noise no gains, looks good though and lasts forever

eh?

eh?

as far as im aware anyway lol, the stndard air feed connect onto the cda filter, so to see the most benefit youd want the pd160 as wel to more air. no? lol

on the cda theres a silicone/poly-something piping to stick where the pd160 pipe supposed to go  Hence why imo I dont think pd160 is worth its pennies anymore.

PD160 pipe and trumpet is only plastic piping which connects nicely to air box.. and costs a whopping £80..?

Pd160 intake is what most performance companys recommend so must be enough

Now I' not saying you haven't gained a 20bhp increase from just using this intake, but.......................do you honestly believe you have gained 20bhp???

Believing you have gained 20bhp with just a filter is a bit naive. Thats a 15% increase in engine power with just a £120 mod which would be amazing.

Did the box say up to 20bhp? As i'd be amazed if you got anywhere over 5bhp.

Apologies if post seems harsh but claiming that sort of power increase from a filter is just mental

yeah thats what i was beginning to think, i should just spend that little bit extra for something that should prove better? :) when you say it connects to where the pd160 pipe would connect you mean at the filter box? or at the front of the engine bay where the air is sucked in?

Read his whole post buddy

Ok, so i re-read the post. The first time I read it I thought he was claiming 20bhp. I am still a bit confused but think that maybe he has said that he has no power increase at all??? :S

Apologies if I got it wrong.

He was just joking :)

 look at the first word in the sentence

Speaking out-loud but I think a PD160 or whatever it's called is just an expensive ineffective plastic gimmick.emoticon-0149-no.gif

I seen one fitted and was astounded to find-out what the fella paid to have one his Fabia VRS.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Chipping car (YES) is definitely a move in the right direction.emoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0105-wink.gif

Gah! It's all here if you use the search!

Quick summary: all an induction mod on a diesel engine will do is help keep the soot down when pushing on, change the induction noise, and maybe sharpen throttle response a bit. No real improvement in power or torque will be achieved, due to the physico-chemistry of diesel combustion. Lesson ends.
