Parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just bought a 2006 VRS TSFI and i am looking at fitting parking sensors to it but which ones are best? Is it worth getting orginal ones as they are pretty expensive or are there any good after market one's around? I am looking at fitting both front and rear sensors.

Thanks in advance

Tim

Hi Tim

As it happens I have just taken delivery of "beep & par" kit #1 from Valeo. 44 pounds for just the back ones. (I belive the front and back with dashboard screen is about 90 quid)

I haven't fitted them but the box is very pretty and the kit inside looks well made. Instructions are fine and I noted one or two important points IMHO:

  • the sensors are on short leads so theoreticaly it might be easier to replace them if broken. i.e. no need to undo the rest of the wiring inside the car.
  • speaker is separate so can be positioned so that it is not muffled as it would be if integrated with the ECU in the boot.
  • apparently the ECU can be upgraded with additional visual hints on mirror or above back window (extra cost - just buy the right kit #).
  • Hole cutter is just 18.5 mm dia. - most I've looked at are in the order of 21+mm
  • three sets of additional collars are included to alter angles.

However, Valeo says you can't paint the sensors - paintable ones are available to order as a spare part!

The diameter of the additional collar is larger than 18.5mm and there is no cutter for this diameter.

I understand Valeo is an OEM supplier to some maufacturers (don't know if that would include this type of kit) and it all looks quality.

Hope this helps

The one and only regret i have on my car is that i didnt spec rear parking sensors on my car, can the sensors be fitted and linked in with the stereo like the factory fit ones doo coming up with the little picture, or is it one of those yes you can as long as your willing to pull off an arm and a leg!! to pay for it

Has anyone had any experience of the PD1 electromagnetic sensor ?

its the one with no hole just a strip inside the bumper

was thinking about getting one as dont fancy drilling the bumper

have also seen kits on ebay to retrofit the skoda OPS system to be the same as the factory fit ones

I've been in a car with the PD1 fitted. It detected a horizontal 15mm copper pipe sticking out of the back of a plumbers van. Was very impressed as I'm not sure how well an ultrasonic kit would have done.

I've also driven a car with the cheaper RightClick version. Although I wasn't really relying on it, it seemed to do OK.

Now that could be a solution to what i'm after! In the not to distant future SWMBO will need to drive the Octy a lot more than she does, and the one thing she is always worried about is where her rear "ends" :giggle:

I had thought about ordering all the OEM part as I've never liked the look of the Skoda accessory kit, but if this really does what it says on the box, then I'd be very interested!

So as per Dallan post, has anyone fitted this to a VAG car and if so what did you think?

I'd be interested in the original sensors if they could be connected up to the stereo, does anyone know if they can be?

  • 3 months later...

Just for information.

My local Skoda dealer (Bickertons in Sheffield) charge £350 to retrofit parking sensors.

I have purchase and installed these on my van. They work fine and were pretty easy to fit.

A quick bit of looking around the net and I have found this company (as well as amazon etc) that sel the electromagnetic parking sensors:

Yes they can but you need the proper Skoda module which mounts on one of the rear wheel arches.

If you have this it can be totally intergrated into the graphics on the Bolero as per OEM

IIRC a company in Germany sells this module

I have been toying with a plan to get these

Module & Wiring

and Sensors

Sensors

But the sensors seem to be out of stock, and not sure how good the website are etc.

But not bad for €155

There's a thread here about this
