Got myself a new 'puter

Featured Replies

Not quite as flashy as the one with all the neons and shower hose in it, but I reckon I'm gonna be quite chuffed with it! Looks well specced up, and its less than a year old too! :D And yes, its another ebay one.

My new 'puter

Should put my Athlon 750 to shame I believe! ;)

I think now my #1 aim is to get rid of my athlon 750 and the 17" monitor thats coming with this system above, and get a TFT, either 17" or 19"

Slow processor (relatively speaking), but well speced up in terms of memory and drives, should serve you well, but at

The PC is local to me, so will be collecting it from town after I finish work on Tuesday. The fact I didn't have to entrust the Royal Mail / Parcel Farce with this, was a big factor in me getting it. (thanks again to the "nearest distance" function on ebay, which STILL so many sellers are not utilising! :( )

I know its relatively slow, but will be lightning compared to my 750 dating back to '99. ;) Almost three times as quick hopefully.

Oh, and I looked at PC World's budget PC for

I am not really being critical, processor speed is not every thing, my own PC has a 2.2Ghz celeron, so is similar speed, and I find it to be very fast and not really noticeably slower than the 2.8 and 3.2GHz P4 systems that some people have in my work. Only thing I would worry about is it is rather dated looking being old style off white rather tahn black or metallic silver. Looks like it may have an old monitor as from the photo looks like a Compaq monitor rather than MESH. Keyboard and mouse look cheap, but you already plan a new TFT and you can get a really good cordless keyboard and opticval mouse for

Don't worry - I knew you weren't being critical ;) And yeah, I know its a bit butt ugly to look at, but hope to get rid of that monitor and have a nice shiney silver TFT screen to go with the black speakers. :D Thankfully my keyboard tray slides out to hide the ugliness of the tower.

Did you notice what I added to my post as I noticed a few worrying things about the add!

Yeah, just looked at that, and that westernuk ebay ID was bidding on this computer as well... I'm gonna ask the bloke about that!

Good luck with it, hope it all turns out OK.

Jason,

Look at the bid history, and then the previous item for your seller. Isn't that the same PC? Something a bit iffy going on methinks! Same seller/buyer??

EDIT: Just read William's edit. Doh!

Oh dear, the 'ebay and Jason' curse strikes again.... ;)

Indeed , and he can't even use the "It was late and I was drunk" excuse.

Jason , if you want a new PC I'll quite happily build you a much better new machine for the same price as that one.

A good job that your bid just beat Westernuk ..............otherwise he would have ended up buying 2 puters from this man ...........

I smell something very fishy here ..................

Jason , I think you have outbid the seller or his mate ....!!

Hmmm. I'm awaiting an email, but won't be happy if this is the case! Why do I sense the first bit of negative feedback coming my way! :grumpy:

funniest thing was I outbid someone else and they got in touch wanting to know whether I wanted to keep it or sell it on, and they'd be interested to buy it.

Yes I just noticed that altough the 'seller' has left +ve feedback for Westernuk saying a fast payer, the actual ebay system seems to still indicate he has not paid for the item! Take Dr Zoidberg up on his offer as I think he can be taken as reliable :).

 I'm sure thats the case... I shall await an email with eagerness. ;)

Well all I can go by is that despite him an I not getting on the best on Briskoda, he sent me a free broad band microfilter just as he said he would.

Does Jason have valid grounds for cancelling?

I am sure he has, as it almost certainly is a scam!

  • Author

If I do cancel, then I'm all for that, AS LONG as he doesn't be the first prat to leave me negative feedback taking me from 100% feedback, down to 99.5% :grumpy:

You can however leave a comment explaining why you pulled out.

****!!! Just found an email in my deleted items when I asked the seller to clarify it was a 1900 as it said it was a 1.6 ghz, and guess what!!!?

The email address I got back from the seller (note SELLER!) was from western.uk@ (insert ISP here)!!! And the bidder (note BIDDER) bidding against me was called... wait for it... "ukwestern".... I've been had, and sent a sh!tty email to the seller saying I'm not going through with the sale, and that we can mutually leave positive feedback and do nothing more... That would be the best thing for me now... God damn glad I didn't use paypal!!

Now I have this scammers email address, might see if I can extract an address out of him and go round with a group of mates.  :grumpy:

Mental note* Look more carefully at feedback and prior auction history before bidding!

You have to be careful. Ebay is great when you deal with an honest seller, but to be honest the recent Watchdog programme on BBC1 put me off it! Not just the fact that there are scammer, but because Ebay itself as a company does little to prevent it happening, and also because PayPal 'protection' is not upto much and is designed to mean that by the time you can be sure the seller is not sending the goods, it is too late to apply for compensation from PayPal.

I had made a few purchases, but I think I am unlikley ever to bid on anything worth more than

Report him to ebay for all the good it does , also see if his contact details , especially the phone number are correct.

If not then he will be kicked off immediately as thats one of the few things they take seriously
