Being honest, I wouldnt have even bid for it as it is way overpriced.

Here you go Jason , a better spec computer for

Hmmm , they don't seem to great a deal either.

On the best machines only 256mb memory , just a plain CD-Rom , and next to no upgrade potential. Oh , and pirate software.

I'm not starting a moral crusade against pirate operating systems , but when people are selling PCs and trying to claim that a pikey OS adds value then that gets on my nerves.

They would be fine for someone who just wants to browse websites and thats it , but another hundred quid would get a much better new machine

Yeah, Dr.Z that does seem good value - will get back to you. Funny thing is I think this ebayer has ignored my "I'm not following through" email and sent me "collection is OK and even a mobile number!"

Gonna report him to ebay now! :grumpy:

In all honesty devon, you could buy the bits your self off ebuyer, microdirect, computer orbit , etc, and there would be plenty of people on her would help you build it if you did not know what to do, very easy these days.

But that would involve spending another hundred quid - and even then, you're looking at entry level components (cheap case, etc).

Ex-lease equipment is usually much better quality, and those look on the money for second-user retail - if you've got a budget of less than

the machine I specced up the only "cheap" components are the unbranded RAM and the case. Everything else is good quality branded kit and it would only be another 20 quid to improve the RAM and Case.

So with a monitor and keyboard and mouse, that'll push it up to around the

20GB is adequate for most things even today. I have a toshiba libretto 110CT, which has a 4GB HD, a Pentium 233MMX CPU and 64MB of ram and the OS running on this 6 year old machine is ..... Win XP Pro. I use this with a wireless pcmcia card to surf the web and read emails using outlook 2003 from anywhere at home.

The pc that I purchased from the ebayer I mentioned, I got for parts only (2nd cpu/vrm, rambus memory and so on) to upgrade an identical machine I already have. I never even powered it up so I cant tell you what was on the HD. it was supplied with a brand new keyboard/mouse/56k v92 modem and speakers and a 2nd user Compaq 17" monitor which is downstairs still in the box it came in. The guys feedback speaks for itself, and they replied to all my emails very quickly.

 I did my entire degree on a PII-300' date=' and I did a hell of a lot more than e-mailing and net-browsing!

I did my entire PhD on a 386SX-20Mhz PC with 4Mb Ram and a wopping 100Mb HDD and 14inch VGA monitor!

I did not do any emailing or web surfing in those days but I did quite a lot of heavy office work quite happily on this little machine. The only problem was that I had to break up my thesis into many different documents to allow me to make back up copies as my only way of doing this was on the floppy disk drive.

Those were the days  .

And I used to use a BBC Model B to produce reports years ago whilst still in the RAF. 32K of memory didn't seem to be too much of a limitation in those days...

And I used to use a BBC Model B

And one of the two guys who headed up the design team for the BBC model B lectured me at university...it's a small world... :D

As a quick update I've just had confirmation from ebay they have "dealt with the situation", so now both IDs are banned from ebay! I think I'm right in saying that means negative feedback can't be left against my unblemished name. :woot:

Will think of other ways of dealing with my desire for a faster PC some other time. I think January could be an expensive month for me. :(

Elite and Revs (anyone remember that one?), were games that were ahead of their time. And who could forget Frak? Ahh, nostalgia isn't what it used to be. :)

Jason,

I have come across the following post on Moneysavingexpert.com before and having read about your wish to get a new PC without a monitor thought you might be interested. The poster claims that a base unit Intel

I didn't know that Intel still did processors as slow as 530MHz????????

I didn't know that Intel still did processors as slow as 530MHz????????

Intel have now changed their numbering system, and the number seems to have no link to the clock speed.

We have just got some Laptops at work that have a Centrino 725 processor.

god i hate it when companies do that sort of thing!

That's nothing. I've got an Acorn Atom, built by me own fair hands in 1981!
