Service - what to do?

Featured Replies

I serviced my car back in February, have done about 4000 miles since then so dont need a service yet but as my car will be 4 years old at end of this month i have the belt and water pump to be done.

Should i have it done now as its 4 years old (its done about 36000 miles) or should i wait for next service which will probably be around December?

Dont want to go to unnecessary expense if i can help it.

Id wait if it was me!

But you'll get ppl saying that if you dont replace the belt on the 365th day of the 4 th year your car will explode

i'm in the same place, service due now, 4 years old in december and 47k on the clock - i am getting the belt and pump done at the next service which will be in the spring - rule is 60k or 4 years i believe.

I'd wait too, December isn't far off, and given the mileage you've done I can't imagine imagine a couple 000 more miles will make a difference tbf.

Personally I would get it done all at the same time, it is only the UK that stipulate every 4 years for the belt change ......... make of that what you want!

Yes with such a low mileage i would wait til December

It would be good to know if anyone has ever had problems with a cam belt snapping on say a low mileage 5 year old car, rather than just going off Skoda's guidlines. Mine was only at 40k when it was 4 years old, so I waited a year and had it done at 50k/5yrs. Does anyone know what VW recommend for Golfs etc? Is it just Skoda that say 4 years?

Marc

It's 4 years across the VAG range (SWMBO has a Golf) - in the UK anyway

I had my previous car's done at 4 years between services. Didn't cost any more doing it that way and it spread the payout...
