TDI 3250 rpm loss of power

Featured Replies

I have a Mk1 Octavia 1.9TDI with an ASV engine type, when the revs reach 3250rpm the power drops of by possibly 20 to 30 bhp, recycling the ingnition cures this and I regain full power.

This is not causing me too many problems as I very rarely need to exceed these rpm and prefer to short-shift but it happens when entering motorways as I tend to hold the gear and gain speed as I merge.

I have seem one topic that mention overboost which was also cured by recycling the ignition, and it feels as tho the car has a rev limiter that comes on but is then staying on, this of course is ****** as the car used to run well beyond these revs and has started this recently but its just what the car feels like to drive.

I would be interested to find out the cause and if possible the cure as the alternative is putting the car in a field and setting fire to it!

Altogether now...

Sticky Turboooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

try a search on sticking VNT or sticky turbo and limp mode, there's loads of information.

Answer is to get it checked with VCDS (to confirm an overboost error) and then get the turbo removed and cleaned and then don't drive like a granny.

If you short shift and don't give it the beans often enough this is what tends to happen unfortunately.

If it's going into limp mode then it's a sticky turbo or one of the vaccume parts associated with the VNT mechanism.

If it's not going into limp mode and just losing power then it's worth trying a new MAF (or disconnecting the other one and having a quick drive to see if it improves and if so then replacing it)

I agree, sticky turbo or a possible vacuum leak.
