Modifications advice

Featured Replies

I could do with some advice, I just had a service at Awesomegti and it was highlighted I have a N/S/F wheel bearing knackered, so I intend to get that done this week. Is it worth me getting them changed in pairs?

Its also been mentioned my front wishbone bushes are starting to perish and the front anti roll bar sleaves are starting to crack.

I was thinking, is it worth just getting standard bushes or poly bushing? If I was polybushing I would price up getting the lot done.

Also, I was going to get a rear anti roll bar fitted eventually but would it be worth going for an uprated front one such as the FK one which Awesome sell? From reading the FK one is 23mm so will be better than a standard one anyway.

1) No need to change wheel bearings in pairs, but you really need a hydraulic press to do them without risking the ABS sensor rings.

2) Polybushes are a bit arguable; I've seen it suggested that they cause wear on the wishbones because they don't twist like rubber ones are designed to do.

3) Don't fit an uprated FARB without getting a RARB first or at the same time. The vRS has a bit of a rep as a strong understeerer, which a RARB will reduce or cure, but an uprated FARB without a RARB will make worse.

Eibach ARB kit front and rear made a big difference to mine. A really good value for money mod. Do it!

what thickness is the front arb, i have the 25mm rear, but i would not go above 23mm on the front otherwise you are back to square one.

I got the 28mm nurspeed rear bar on mine and the 23mm golf r32 on the front.

After lots of reading and deliberating over price I went for the more expensive, and glad I did too.

For the money its probably the most noticeable mod, it transformed the car.

Thanks for the replies.

I'd be looking at getting an upgraded front anti roll bar and a rear one, although considering I'm not intending to track the car I may just go for the rear and save towards some weitec coilovers.

Personally, I wouldn't change a single bearing, ball joint or bush, I would always do them in at least pairs.

I have poly bushes, and like them, but if you drive on very bad roads often you will quickly get bored of them! I drive into Portsmouth once a week and it's not nice.
