Decorative Trims fitting costs

Featured Replies

Hi to all, Storm Blue 1.8TSI elegance has just arrived at the dealer for the bling to be ordered & fitted. The costs seem to have escalated from my intial estimate, particularly when front bumper trims are listed at £15 + fitting - Price now quoted £43.57 (inc bonding & adhesive) + Fitting @ £18.45 = £62.02 after a 10% discount. Am I right in thinking that this is daylight robbery!!

I was/am looking at having the following fitted:

Front Bumper Trims ("plus adhesive")

Rear Bumper Trim ("plus adhesive")

Exhaust Trim - (Opps re-looked at accessories brochure - can a Dealer actually fit these to a 1.8TSI?)

Side Protection Strips

Door Sill Covers

The above parts cost £523.22 (inc 10% discount)

To fit above parts £291.04 (inc 10% discount) - just under 4 hours labour.....

Is DIY fitting of any of these possible/recommended?

Oh! and by the way fitting Front & Rear mud Flaps £55.36 (after 10% discount)

And lastly has anyone managed to get the chrome door side trims (as shown in Skoda UK's leaflet but only available outside of the UK)? These seem to be about £100 in Europe - no doubt plus a £400 fitting charge from our dealer.......

Any advice re costs would be most appreciated.

I'd get the dealer to do rather than DIY. That way it's covered under warranty

The mud flaps are an easy DIY. Don't know abnout the rest

Tbh I wouldnt be too worried about warranty issues on some of the above items and after an absolutley dreadful (and expensive!) experience with accesories being fitted badly by Allams that supplied my Yeti - I'd rather do as much as possible myself!

Mud flaps (front and rear) took me about 30 mins iirc. All of the other items you list Id be happy to do as a diy job infact. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Many thanks for your replies. I agree that warranty isn't really a concern. Most of these seem to just glue into place. Having read some other threads, it seems fitting costs vary from dealer to dealer - especially the side protection strips. This is a slightly better breakdown of the costs -

Front Bumper Trims £13.50 + £30.07 adhesive + £18.45 fitting

Rear Bumper Trim £41.40 + £30.07 adhesive + £46.13 fitting

Exhaust Trim £22.98 + £46.13 fitting

Side Protection Strips £318.60 + £134.20 fitting

Door Sill Covers £66.60 + £46.13 fitting

Mudflaps £36.00 + £55.36 fitting

Total parts cost £499.08 (inc 10% discount)

Plus adhesive £60.14

To fit above parts £346.40 (inc 10% discount)

Grand total - £905.62

Can anyone give us comparative costs from their dealer?

If everyone else is paying these kind of costs, then so be it, but £400.00 seems a lot to us for not a lot of work, but I could be wrong.

Thanks again

If you are going ahead with this ask the dealer to save you the left over adhesive. I can't believe that it costs £60 !!

I don't know about the other things but my dealer in London quoted me £80 + VAT to fit four mud flaps. I will do it myself for sure.

I've ordered from my dealer Decorative Rear bumper trim, Decorative side mirror covers, Rear Mud flaps, Front mud flaps, Sports exhaust, Decorative front bumper trim, stainless steel foot pedal covers & decorative Door sill covers. I asked the delaer for their best price for supply only and their best price for supply and fit, they won't even give me a supply and fit cost until they know the car is on the way as they stated they won't order them until they know the cars deliver date. I also asked if they were supplied with all fixings etc required, still awaiting an answer on that.

NB - Will the exhaust fit the 1.4tsi?

The parts need going in a dryenvironment on level ground.

The dealers will likely have jigs for applying these correctly.

You may find the adhesive is 'one shot' as well. Most for this purpose is.

Lower front grille trims come with self adhesive tape - fitting time <5 mins, adhesive cost £0 :smirk:

  • 2 years later...

Hi fitted mudflaps front and back, bought torx L shapped screw driver on ebay £3. the bumper trims have stickie pads on them, but use tiger seal as well comes in pump tube about £5 to £7 on ebay or amazon. Just make sure you clean area well with trim wipes. Honest took me 2 hours max and easy job.

Holy thread revival! But good advice imo. :)

Personally I prefer DIY. Cheaper and better IMO......but each to their own

I have fitted the trim pieces. Removed the original double sided tape and replaced with heavy duty trim tape. Did not fancy using the (permanent) glue as may want to remove at a later date. Been on for 10 months and no problem.

Agree with the DIY approach and avoidance of permanent glue fixing as the best way. Any minor damage and maybe significantly bigger bill to repair if using permanent glue.

If you are cost conscious return on £900 investment likely to be Nil on resale/trade in so DIY minimises loss if you are up to it.

Looks like a take some care to do it well job rather than a need for any specific skills.

£900????? - £20 more like. I was referring to the two 9" long silver trim pieces that are fitted either side on the front valance.

Was referring to the OP's quoted costs which are a bit much.

OK - did not bother to read the OP - sorry!
