Sat Nav and Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Thanks to all those who have replied to my questions so far. It's definitely helped in the process of narrowing down the field.

I have a couple more questions though (hope you don't mind me picking everyone's brains without being able to offer much in return...at least, not yet).

1) Is there really much advantage to having a factory fitted Sat Nav? After all, I already have a portable Garmin Sat Nav that cost me a hundred quid or so which does all I would ever require from it. There are a few used cars about with the Sat Nav option which are more expensive to some extent as a result. Can't see the point myself, but am I missing something?

2) I've used cruise control in automatic cars and found it very handy. I can see two uses for it - cruising at speed in top gear and cruising in order to stick to a particular speed limit. (Actually, I've never used it in this country - only in the antipodes, including the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory of Australia, which is more or less straight with, at the time, no speed limit and only the odd road train in the way, so you could generally cruise at 100mph+.) The former makes sense in a manual car but I can't see how the latter would work without an auto box, unless the road was completely levels. Again, am I missing something?

looked into getting the sat nav fitted also but could not justify to myself the cost of it. In the end left it savedthe money and will buy a new TomTom. unless you really want it dont bother you already have sat nav.

1) I wouldn't buy the factory fitted sat nav on a new car but I have got it in my used Octy and it does look the part although I still use my trusty TomTom. Plus it's got the hard drive which I've loaded about 20gb worth of music onto which means I don't need to remember my ipod or leave it in the car

2) I've used Cruise control on both manual and auto cars and I wouldn't buy a car now without it!
