Front Grill

Featured Replies

I am wondering what changes can be made to the Front Grill of the Fabia, I would like to make it black rather than chrome.

Does anyone have a guide to doing this? and any price ideas?

Do you have any information on wrapping the grill in Vinyl

I'm also planning on doing similar. There are some guides on here on how to paint DIY. The important thing seems to be preparation and removing the chrome which can be done by soaking in bleach.

I wonder what it would look like painted red on a black car, hmmm :D

I have a blue classic and wanted to make the grill black as liked the idea of a dark blue and black colour theme going on the car!

I done mine couple of times. Rubbed it down, primer, paint, lots of laquer. Come out ok, used halfords stuff.

I vinyl wrapped mine a couple weeks ago!

PITA job!

I love it though!

Slightly more durable than painting and reversible too!

Agreed with all the above points

So you went for it then Mike? :p

It's the temporary element that makes this appealing to me too

I've yet to see an unchipped painted one thats been on a car

for a couple of months,

My vinyl has remained unmarked for in excess of

six months now. And when I sell the car on I can

have it back to chrome in ten minutes flat if need be

Check my sig.

Does the vinyl not go kinda hazy over time?

An idiots guide to vinyl wrapping a chrome grille would be good :D

Mine hasn't so far. Sig pic taken a fortnight ago.

Seems okay with a little wax too. Still has the 3d effect going on as well.

It's expensive vinyl but worth the extra IMO

Google 3M Di-Noc to get some idea of price. That's whats on mine.

As stated above it's expensive gear, to buy a sheet big enough to do the grille in one piece

you'd be looking around the £30 mark.

With that in mind I was worried about hashing it up and ending up with nothing to show for my bucks.

I was contacted by iantype-r who has a detailing

business in the Lincoln area. He wanted £30 for the vinyl or £40 to supply and fit as it were.

I thought for the sake of a tenner it was worth it to have it done by an expert. I had to also pay return

postage on top so all in it came to about £50. I'm still very happy with his work and the vinyl too
