Thanks Al, that was the one I was intending to get - then I thought I had better get something that covered the aluminium rails as well (to stop the salt water getting to them), hence me now thinking about the butyl pond liner.

The plastic one I am not too keep on TBH and im not sure it would work with the variable boot floor sliding in and out of the boot anyway?

I notice there doesn't appear to be any tools in your spare wheel (spanner & screwdriver etc) are these another thing that are no longer supplied now? :swear:

It has voice control.. small button next to CD slot, or press the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

You can play iPhone music via bluetooth, but you have to control it on the phone and not through the columbus. If there is a connection you'll see an ipod in the maxidot. Press media and you'll see top right on the screen a bluetooth icon. If you select that you can play music through bluetooth. It works with ipod app and spotify app.

Thanks Jake, very helpful. I'll try that out this weekend.

Nice car! Great review.

I have no issues with it at present - which is nice!

And a Spare Wheel on-board (Full Size)

And look at what the Winter-Wheel-Fairy brought me last week!!

A set of 4, Genuine Skoda "Luxon" Ally wheels - that i bought new from eBay - and added 4x Vredestine Wintrac Extreme Tyres... Nice!

Hi, ukcruiser,

my first post... sorry to again hijack original feed.

I'm waiting on delivery of our Superb Estate - Elegance 170CR (not 4x4) but I'm amazed that you have a full size spare!

I wanted one but the best they could do was not supply the "PU Foam" and replace with a space saver!

I notice you don't have a "truely full size spare" but at least you can complete your journey (no matter how for you had to travel - which is always a point I try to make, especially if on holiday - although your punctured wheel my not fit in the "reserve hole", so what neither will mine!)

As for the winter tyres.... are you in the UK? We lived in Germany for nearly 6 years and I feel in the UK we should also have winter tyres (they make such an enormous difference to safet in the cold/wet/ice/snow...) but they are difficult to get hold of. Any tips other that keep eyes open on e-bay?

Thanks

Stef

Hi Stef,

The old Superb Brochure (when i ordered my car - Feb 2010) stated the same price, but you could choose either a space saver, or a full-size spare. - but the new one states something like, full-size spare for 16" wheels - Space saver for those vehicles fitted with 17 and 18" - Maybe the 205/55/16 is going to be considered as a space saver now?

Ok, so the full size i have is only 16" (205/55/16) but it is the same rolling-radius as the 18"s. - so as you say, no harm in continuing on your journey.

Yeah i'm in the UK, up in the North East - where last winter it got pretty bad - the Winter tyres should make a huge difference, even if they are on 18" rims - the tyres were bought from MyTyres.co.uk and were fitted by a local tyre-fitter. MyTyres can also provide you with 16" steel wheels, pre-fitted with Winter tyres, but as i use the car for work (Self employed) i need to set a certain image, and this means steel wheel on such a luxury car, for me, are out.

The wheels i bought, came new from a dealer down south somewhere - i didnt get this history, but they were brand new in boxes, and i believe were a cancelled order - the Luxon wheels are not a factory spec option, and i've only seen the in photo's before i get my hands on them.

When did you order your Superb? - and what colour did you go for?

Al.

Those wheels on eBay must be like golddust!

Those wheels on eBay must be like golddust!

only ever seen them once, and i was shopping for them since February when i ordered the car... altho the seller, had listed them a bit wrong...

eBay item number: 120621217814

he wanted £500, i offered £400 - he accepted and posted for this too - couldn't complain!

Hi, have a look at www.overthetop.co.uk they make custom fit waterproof boot liners made out of a 3 layer material, with a heavy duty cord as the final layer. I have ordered a set for my 170cr 4x4 estate (for when it finally arrives) they will cover the aluminum rail( i have no use for it). Plus you can choose between black, grey or green. I have 2 boxer dogs to transport and also 2 lots of dive gear so dont want any crap getting were it shouldnt, plus they look really classy and expensive. Ideally suited to the superb. P.s I have also ordered the variable floor, and they tailor the covers to fit.

I guess this is simply to clarify that the spare is different to the fitted wheels in size as I seem to remember somebody on the Superb forum that suceeded in using the previous ambiguity in the brochure to extract a fifth alloy wheel and tyre out of SUK customer service.

This has been discussed at length on the Yeti forum, the factory supplied spare is still a standard 16" tyre on a steel rim. A full sized alloy would have been nicer (and more expensive) but this is a much better option than a space saver bicycle wheel.

Best regards

David

thats the Skoda boot liner - it's really thick rubber - there is another version, with a "lip" but you cant use the luggage rails with it... and it's £150...

This one is what i have

http://www.accessori...p_no=3T9061190B

Here's a Close-up of how thick it is...

The link states the rubber liner is for the raised floor, looks like you don't have that??

Just after confirmation as I dont have the raised floor.

Hi Al,

sorry would have replied earlier but I couldn't remember which post it was that I had commented on... what a good start! (any tips on how to recall posts that I've commented on, or is it just a case of revisiting thread & keeping up).

I must confess somewhat gutted that they've changed the spec for the spare! & still have to pay £100 for the space saver & they still have the cheek to take away the inflation kit!! It's all about saving money.

Our car... it should be here soonish... in mid September we ordered a Superb Estate 170CR TDI in Elegance trim - Colour Amethyst purple / Ivory leather interior plus.... floor mats, heated windscreen & washers & luggage / dog restraining net. Also paid for the Life-shine, I hope its worth it.

It was built last week so about 3 more weeks before delivery.... hopefully Christmas will come early.

Assuming it behaves itself the intention is to keep it in the family for at least 6 years.... lets see if this our first Skoda can keep me a Skoda customer....

I've been a Vauxhall owner for many years but hopefully we can shift our Vectra Estate Design 1.9TDI 150bhp (metallic blue 75k miles) soon..... Anyone interested??? Its in Autotrader.... being quite fussy, I have to admit its not immaculate but it is still in a very good conditiion & a genuinely good car. But recently got smitten by a few "VAG family" cars, they do feel good.

I hope I'm as lucky as you should I get some winter wheels & tyres.

Thanks for your comments

Stef

Hi Stef,

Make sure you give your Heated Screen a good try - good time of year for it mind! - unlike my "summer" delivery, i'm in for a new Screen tomorrow as only half works... :(

Al.

Hi Al,

yes I noticed another thread (I assume yours) about the warranty work & having to pay for the insurance for the courtesy car. Quite a cheek!

If this was your issue, then I would argue the case that the warranty work is covered by Skoda and as it's a manufacturing fault and Skoda pick up the bill for the warranty work then keeping a customer on the road with the least inconvenience (as its not your fault) then surely this small cost is just part of the cost of the warranty work - ie. Skoda should pay!

You could alternatively counter their request for payment with your own invoice for Skoda's failure to supply you with the use of a vehicle (as yours is in their workshop) and say... you have my car here's my charge for you having my car & they need to reimburse you for the use of your insurance (even if its not true.... or what would happen if your car was destroyed by fire in their workshop, does thier insurance pay out or yours??). Alternatively you say here is my charge to you for preventing me from using my car and its basically a request for a contribution for the period for which you have already paid your own insurance policy for no reason what-so-ever.

As for testing it.... I most certainly will. I'm also waiting to ask for a few other things.... the infamous umbrella (where is it?? If from wht is being said its the 2011 model that no longer has a brolly then what car am I getting?.... if it was 2011 then theoretically I would be paying 20% VAT and the V5 paperwork would say 2011... wouldn't it?

And I noticed that someone else had an issue with the luggage restraining net, ie. that it is not actually fitted. you need some special tools to insert the fixings. I can do nothing other than refuse to be charged for the fitting. If it is not supplied fitted then its not exactly fit for purpose. I guess I will need to make sure I look at the car properly before signing for it & making any payments.

I trust you are more than happy with your car otherwise? Slowly but surely we're looking forward to it... a shame its going to primarily be the wife's car :-( I've got my company Golf Bluemotion to blast around the country...

Hi Al,

Threw some clothes on to simply check the heated windscreen this morning... was -2C here and it took about 2-3 mins to fully deforst. Hopefully all the side windows will be clear by the time we're off out shortly.

& to note the spare tyre is the same as yours 205/R16... so pretty chuffed. Skoda simply call it a space saver because its not the same size as those fitted to the vehicle. I guess this is sort of a saving for them as every car gets the same & as such mistakes can't be made. And from a safety point its safer.

I trust all of your screen is still working - at last.... in time for the next blast of cold weather.

Thanks

Stef
