Mazda MX5 12v socket wiring

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help with some wiring in my MX5. It does not have a 12v socket, so Im just adding one in, however the wires I have are blue / and black. Would imagine Blue is live and black is negative? If someone could confirm I would be very grateful! The haynes manual is no help!

do you have a multimeter, or even a test lamp? Put one lead on an earth and the other to one of the wires, if it shows a voltage or lights up will show which the live is. That lead should go to the central contact on the socket, and the outer shell to earth.

Many thanks Llanigraham. I will borrow my dads multimeter. The wiring is a bit iffy - there are no connectors on the ends, and they look like the old ones have simply been pulled off!

If you want to bring it over on Saturday I'll have a look at it for you.

Did you get this sorted? If not I'll try and stick my head under the dash of mine tonight but can't guarantee that it'll have the same wiring colours as, from experience, Mazda seemed to be pretty random in that regard both over the years and on the production line... :S

Why does it not have a 12v socket? Are you sure it's not hidden?

Sorry I missed your post about this - I really appreciate the offer! Last weekend was a bit of a crazy one anyway - so I probably couldn't have fitted it in.

I have still yet to fit the socket!! I have been too busy driving it now as its on the road!

There is definitley no socket there - just two bare wires. Thanks for all of the replies.
