Service Schedule.

Featured Replies

I've just been out to check the oil level on the Yeti and the owners manual lists two different oils depending on whether the car is on a fixed or variable service schedule.

How do I check to see if ours is fixed or variable?

Many thanks in advance.

Out of the factory they are all filled with longlife oil, so use that - assuming you've not had, or arent near a service.

Look at the data sticker in the front of the service book or boot floor and find either code;

QG1 - Longlife service

or

QG2 -time & distance.

would however recommend using the 504 standard, although you cannot grantee your dealer will do the same :S

Regards,

TP

If you look in your service book there will be a sticker on the inside cover with a list of codes comprising of letters and numbers, all these codes mean something and there is a link on this site whereby you can enter all your codes and have them decoded, one of the first codes tells you (when it's been decoded) if you are on fixed or extended servicing schedule. If you have maxidot then you can bring up the service due date via the menu and from that you will see if you are on the extended service as it will tell you when your next service is due and you can work out from your registration date how many miles to next service.

My Yeti Elegance cr 170 diesel is on the extended service schedule. I'm at work now so I'll post the code tomorrow and you can look at your service manual and compare codes. Looks like someone has posted as I was writing.

507 or 504?

504 is afully synthetic long life motor oil suitable for petrol engines

507 is a fully synthetic long life motor oil to be used if your diesel engine has a particulate filter.

You can buy some non VW brand oils that are 504 & 507 compatible so letting you use that particular oil in a diesel or petrol engine. If you are in any doubt check with your dealer.

Thought for the day, if the oil is fully synthetic then why is it so bloody expensive?

If you check on the internet Licolnaudi are selling Quantum 5w30 fully synthetic in both 504/507 specs for only £25.95 [ plus £8 p&p]for a 5 litre container. Thats where I'll be going to buy some, after mine is run -in ;)

Thought for the day, if the oil is fully synthetic then why is it so bloody expensive?

Because it's got to be manufactured via a long and complex chemical process rather than just pumped out of the ground?

Brilliant! That's what I like about this forum.

QG1 according to the service book.

So, how do I know if the car's reminder been set up for fixed or variable? And can I change it?

The reason I ask is that my Wife has changed jobs and her commute has changed from 4 miles each way across town, to 30 miles mostly on the motorway. From what I understand her new commute would better suit a variable schedule.

If the code is QG1 then the variable will have been set up at the factory. If you have the multi function display then you can check when you're next service is due.

The sticker on the book can mean bugger all.

Some dealers change all theirs to fixed (to get cash from you more often), or in the case of 2nd hand, may have been changed by the prev owner. Check what the car tells you.

Thanks for the responses.

Okay, I've checked MFD and it tells me the next services is due in 3800 miles or 186 days. Which sounds to me as if it's fixed.

Can I change it to variable?

There is a reset option, but I've not been brave enough to try it!

No1 would be to kick off at the dealer as to why they changed it to fixed without your consent!

Either a dealer or someone with VCDS can swap back for you.
