HAHA - Wouldn't want to cause anymore embarressment as i also left that email on the 'contact us' page of the website....Just in case he didn't read it!

If you receive a response please remember to share.

I'd love to hear what this nugget might have to say!

I had a bloke get out of car in front of me in traffic to "ask" me to turn off my lights as they were annoying him. I politely informed him that they are "daylight running lights" and cannot be turned off rather like the Volvo's always having their lights on. His reply was "Well that's just f*****g stoopid" and got back in his car. I later took great pleasure in overtaking him , purely so that my DRL's would no longer annoy him of course.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Of course!! Bet if i get one it will be along the lines of 'I have got your reg number and have reported you'! For what, driving a legal car?

If someone had got out in front of me and asked me to switch my lights off, I would have dimmed them by turning on my Xenon's!!

hello

ive had my black vrs now 3 weeks and not been flashed once,

now not sure if that has anything to do with me accidently leaving 2 yellow "sky ride" vest hangnig up on both rear doors .... oops must move them at some time

I had a very similar experience to this except the bloke was in uniform with a blue light on top of his car :smirk:

Lol bet his face was red when you explained

I had to explain to the Psni at a checkpoint what they were and the new legislation surrounding them. You would think the police would know these sort of things!

Off topic, but the Police in France pulled my wife over to book her for being on the phone when driving , you should have seen the look on his face when he saw the steering wheel was on the other side and I was driving:giggle: :giggle: I know I have a private plate, but surely it was obvious it was a right hand drive car inc GB sticker!

I have been flashed a few times, often by a man in a hat driving a Toyota, but not exclusively. There is a question in the In Gear supplement in the Sunday Times today (Car Clinic, page 12). Basically someone from Liverpool (Tom Hicks?) is whingeing about DRL's (" distraction in the rear view mirror, yadda yadda") & asking what the law is. The answer is from February 7th 2011 they are law for all new cars registered after that date. LED's will be the norm as they are long lasting and energy efficient. I shall flash all new Toyotas from February 8th.

Don't flash back, that makes you as bad as them - dazzling others unnecessarily.

I much prefer the one fingered solute!

Which is an offense itself, according to my bible of road traffic law, Police Interceptors :p

Offensive too - which is the point! :giggle:

But more importantly, not dangerous, like flashing main beam

I suppose this will become less common, as the problem of DRLs becomes more commonplace. It;s one of the things that puts me off getting a new VRS (not people flashing me - just the fact that they look gash).

Cant you permanently disable them with VAG-COM or something? Sure you still have them there, looking naff, but at least they wouldnt turn on. Got to be worth a try...........

Further to the above it might be worth checking what the insurance angle might be - not that i think it would ever come up but you never know :(

If you have maxidot you can turn them off. So without Maxidot I am sure there will be something in VAG-Com to turn them off as well. There will be no issues with insurance if you turn them off so ne need to worry there.

Flashing main beam isn't dangerous at all - it is to make another road user aware that you are there.

They look cool! You can turn them off if you have maxidot.

Insurance angle for what?

I prefer to roll down the window and WAVE

That's what your horn is for, main beam is for illuminating longer distances at night.

Flashing main beam may alert someone of your presence but there is also a good chance you'll blind them.

If you want to "make other road users aware that you are there" use dipped headlights, or better still DRL's!

It is also to make people aware of your presence, Read the highway code :giggle: . Horn isn't much good on the motorway to make people aware.

Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.

111

Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully.

112

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn

•while stationary on the road

•when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another road user poses a danger.

But flashing your main beam at an oncoming car because you don't understand the difference between DRL's and fogs isn't "letting them know you are there" is it?

From the HighwayCode: "Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users."

Sounds like intimidation to me.

If you need use main beam on the motorway to make others aware of your presence then may be you should read up on the highway code :giggle:
