Heater - Should it blast?

Featured Replies

My Yeti has the climate control and it generally seems to work very nicely. On a couple of days recently however the temperature was cold first thing and the heater did not pump out air at the pace I would have expected. The temp was around 7-8C whilst I have my temperature set at 20C. In previous cars with cc the car would notice the big difference in temperature and kick in quite heftily until until the temperature in the car rose. In the Yeti however there was no discernible change in the fan speed and this meant the car was quite cold and the windscreen did not demist as as quickly as I would hope for. Has anyone else found this?

I know that I can press a button to get a boost for the windscreen but climate control should mean that once set I should not have to press anything else. Is it an issue just with my car or is it a trait of the Yeti? Incidentally the temperature did eventually get to a comfortable level but my point is that it took quite a while.

Is it set to auto?

Have you had a diesel before? They do take longer to warm up, which is why LR fitted a seperate diesel burner to the Freelander, and now an electric element.

I find mine takes about 10minutes to get hot, and like you I have it set at 20, but normally with Auto off and screen on full.

it wont blast out warm air until the engine has warmed up enough to give sufficient heat, There is no point blasting you with cold air.

You have the diesel and they take an AGE to warm up. I have done at least a mile before the climate control starts working properly and three to four miles before the temperature reaches the set point.

Last winter I ran the engine for a few minutes with the vent on "Window Max" and the recirculation closed, then, when I had cleared the window of ice, went for a short run to heat up the water.

Could have done with a pre heater in these circumstances.

Sorry for the slow reply. I spent most of yesterday watching the Ryder Cup. Yes the setting is on Auto. Also, this is my 4th diesel and they all have warmed up faster than the Yeti. Obviously it is early days so I am not used to it yet but my previous Citroen, Seat and Volvo diesels all heated up at a far faster rate than the Yeti, none had pre-warmers or whatever it is they are called.

I just wanted to check if my car was slow on its own or whether it is the style of the system. It sounds as though it is the system. Thanks for the replies.

Incidentally, I don't expect it to be blasting warm air inside 15 seconds but no blast at all seems odd.

My old L&K Octavia was also slow, with the PD2.0 TDi engine.

If you leave the heating system on Auto nothing will happen until the engine water reaches a set temperature. (to stop cold air being blown into the car.)

Obviously you can override the Auto and set the system to blow in any direction from cold.

That's interesting and would explain. The downside of the lack of blast is that it takes longer for the windscreen to demist as even cool air conditioned air demists quicker than the gentle breeze that exists at the moment.

At least I know it is not a fault which is the main thing.

This why I ordered the heated windcreen:)

Smartypants. It wasn't an option when I ordered my car as I absolutely would have had one.

I stick it on screen, warm setting, fast fan, and air con on

(I checked this morning!)

The comments about how long the Diesel Yeti takes to provide warm air would suggest they don't have PTC heaters fitted. Surely UK ones have them now ?

Stewart.
