Am I Mad ? 2.0PD TDI to 1.8 TSI

Featured Replies

Guy's, I've had my current 2.0 PD TDI L&K for nearly 3 and a half years now, covering 74K with no probs. To be honest I'm a little fed up with the constant drone of a diesel engine, but I love the Octy II (this is my second one). Am I mad in considering changing from my current car to a 1.8 TSI DSG, I know I'll take a hit on the fuel (mpg) as I cover 20k a year.

Have you driven the CR engined cars? they are a lot quieter than the old PD - it's worth trying one.

I don't think so. I am changing from a Rover 75 CDTi to a L&K Tsi so am going down the same route! I'm sure we will both be very happy.

Steve

Most of the row in mine is road noise. I find there is very little diesel drone when cruising. So not sure how much quieter the petrol will be for your normal drive.

I confess to liking the diesel noise emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Before you actually make the final choice, do take the 2,0CR TDi out for a drive it's a lovely beast & quieter than the old PD engine, also smoother IMO.

I only chose the 1,8TSi because I do small annual mileages (Mine's 11 months old & has just 4,600 on the clock!), however I do miss the torque of the diesel & its economy.

I've grown to love the DSG box on my 1,8TSi, in town/traffic its a boon, just take your foot off the brake & let it just ease/trickle along, yet when you want it to, it'll do fast down shifts for overtakes.

Then on the other hand it cruises nicely along in 7th on dual carriageways such as the A3 & A303 with a decent level of fuel economy for a petrol.

You'll have two options with the 2,0 CR and that's with the 140bhp version (available on SE (Non-DSG), Elegance & L&K trim levels) or you can have the 170bhp version, but you'll need to choose a vRS for that.

Yes the right choice would be to buy a 2.0 CR, but I suppose with having mine as long as I have it just sounds noisier than it probably does to someone else. I can't complain about the car its great, always get around 52 mpg (calculating from fillups), the only thing I've found is that the 17" wheels and 45 profile tyres are a little unforgiving on our roads. But I'm going get that from any L&K I suppose. I have driven a VW Jetta with a 2.0 CR engine, it was really quiet and better on economy. I put the quietness down to it being a VW, probably having extra sound proofing etc. I guess I really need to try both engines before deciding. Many thanks for your input guy's, always aprreciated

Get the 1.8TSi, remap it to c.200PS and laugh all the way to the service and noise :)

No, you're not.

I have never decided for a particular car only on fuel costs basis and I have never been driving a diesel.

The driving experience is worth much more than that.

No you are not mad....................deisel is the sperm of the devil. Petrol rules.

i cover about the same miles per year, of course its more expensive in petrol but the difference can be worked out (roughly) and for me it was worth the extra.......although i have forgotten what that was (see it doesn't matter after all!) :D

So the bottom line is is that I'm not mad, we all are  I think its time for me to test drive a 1.8 TSI DSG and a 2.0 CR DSG. Once again many thanks for your input guy's. Off to the dealers with me :)

Correct test both

We have Petrol for Fun & diesel for everyday & long hauls, its all down to what you want from a car & is very personal, neither are bad, its just what suits you.

If you love the present car what about a noisekiller kit, 74K & the PD's just run in

Hi Stuart, yes I read another members comments on the noise killer kit, he fitted it to a vRS CR, its a possibility. Thanks

If you are mad then so am I

Swapped my 1.9TDi for a 1.8TSi DSG 2 days ago.

I cringe a little when I see 35-40mpg where I used to see 50-55 but just press that throttle and it all melts away.:rofl::rofl:
