Anyone own a diesel with DPF and cover low miles?

Featured Replies

I need some reassurance :D

I've just landed a new job which will be based a few miles from my home.

I currently own a 5 month old vRS 2.0TDI CR and so far have had 8,500 trouble free miles since I picked it up on May 5th with 5 miles on the clock :)

I am currently averaging around 18K per year which suited having a diesel.

My new office will be just 5 miles away, and I am concerned that this may interfere with my DPF. I suppose I wont know until I start it... but does anyone else do low mileage (I'm talking 5-6K per annum or less) and have any issues?

I'll probably get the servicing changed to 10K fixed per annum as opposed to 20K/2 years too. Wise?

My dads Fabia Greenline with DPF is little used, and during the week I cuurently drive my superb DSG DPF on a commute of less than 1 mile with no problem. I do however take both cars for a longer run at the weekends to avoid any dpf issues.

Ah yes, the weekends I usually am visiting my dad who lives 32 miles away and there's that little bit of road called the M4 in the middle :D so it should be fine.

Just wanted to double check :D

A 64 mile return trip should be enough time for the dpf to clear itself, as long as the M4 is in a good mood that is.

With a thread like this you'll always get those who have had real issues with their DPF's sharing their pain.

For the record we have a DPF Scout which covers a 10 mile crawl/commute each day, quite often without the long run on a weekend.

12 months in and the harshest winter in a long time and no issues.

As Mannyo suggests give the car a chance to regen its DPF once every week or two and you will be fine

I work five day shifts during which the car goes one mile to work and back again (as I need to get home, walk the dog and get back within half an hour) then on the five days off I have I normally have the car out for two or three runs to take the dog for a walk which is usually under ten miles each. No problems with the DPF so far.

Many thanks

I've only ust got over 7200 miles on mine since picking it up on 30/12/2009 no problems so far.

It doesn't get used all the time but mostly has around town runs under 30mph. It also gets used on the motorway too so I guess that clears out any issues?

The CR with dpf isnt so much of a pain as the PD with dpf, Iv never really had many problems with dpf on CR engines but dpf on PD engines is a completely different kettle of fish!

Oh and my dad has a CR 170 superb, lucky if it does 30 mile a week, never had an issue!
