Hello from Evo Owner.:)

Featured Replies

Just a little hello to all forum members.

I'm getting a little tired of fitting a clutch every 4000 miles and never being able to pass a Shell station for a tank of Optimax with my Evo! I intend to poke me nose around for a bit as I'm giving serious thought towards getting a Fabia VRS in the not too distant future. :)

Mac. :D

Welcome :)

Welcome. Nice motor.

No offence to the fabia owners, but you'd prolly find the octy vrs more similar (but less expensive) to your taste than the fab :p

2.0T > 1.8T20V > 1.9 PDtdi

Welcome

Fabia vRS every time....wouldn't swap mine for anything......no way pedro.

As a Fabia vrs driver I agree with Manguish maybe you should be looking at the Octy vrs rather than the Furby.

And welcome to briskoda :)

HKS Racing Suction Kit,HKS SSQV Dump Valve,HKS Iridium Plugs,HKS 3" Downpipe/De-cat/Cat-back,Ralliart ECU,Apexi AVCR,Walbro 255ltr Pump,Exedy Hyper Single Clutch.

Have a look on www.lancerregister.com The mods on my car are classed as a stage one conversion these days!!! My car is just an average Evo compared to most others on the Register. I run it at 1.6 bar as thats the limit of the mapping from the Ralliart ecu. Its probably beween 345 to 370 bhp (based on other cars with similar mods) as its yet to see a dyno.

I was thinking of getting a Fabia VRS for day to day use and keeping the Evo for the weekends. Working the figures out ,by cutting down the mileage on the Evo the money saved would pay for most of a Fabia! (the Evo really is that bad if you run them day to day :( ) I Don't think it's worth my while selling the Evo as the residuals are pretty poor at the moment so I'd just be giving it away.

Thanks very much to everyone for the warm welcome.

Hello and Welcome:D

and yes nice motor, especially in White, very good choice.

Hi Mac, and welcome...wasn't you I was talking to the other day by any chance was it. ;):D

Welcome and good to see you in here...no doubt hear you burbling past our house again over the weekend!

You just go and check BOTH the Vrs's out, and make your own mind up which you prefer. They both serve different purposes, and are both fantastic...only one gives you a cold shower when you open the tailgate, and the other one doesn't. :P

If you want a blast in mine you''re more than welcome to give me a knock....providing me and C.J. jnr can have a go in yours. :D

Cheers Colin, I think I'll take you up on the offer. I'll wait untill I've fitted my new pads and disc's because I'm running Carbon Mettalic pads at the moment and they are really scary (cr@p) when cold and it takes an age to warm them up. :( Not the best combination if your not used to the car, and its an RS so no ABS or active Yaw to help you out it it all goes "Pete Tong". :D

Mac.

It's quick...no doubt about it..but it ain't got 345-370 bhp, so don't expect it to be quite as rapid as yours...or to hold the road as well either. :finger:

Console yourself when you look at the computer read out for the consumption though.

Steady 55 coming back from Angelsey last June...Mrs C.J. following me pulling the caravan on the A55...77 yes 77 repeat 77 to the gallon!!

Nearly wept with delight. :weeping: Mind you , only made up for the 13 I got whilst blatting it around Ty Croes all weekend. :(

Thats just a tad better than the Evo then!

16 mpg average and about 6-7 mpg when "Playing" , probably a bit worse than that on track.

Mac. :)

I'd seriously consider the Fabia if i was in your position, while your friends might say 'what the f*ck' you'd be giggling to yourself!

Get in touch with Ross Clarke, hes the resident 'big daddy' on this forum, - atleast his furby is as well as his immense knowledge...maybe if you got one you could take it further than his...

But on a serious note go to a showroom and try both. Remeber theres always the 4*4 octavias, but they have the ever 'gay' Haldex system and seem to demolish clutches and gearbox oil.

Demolish clutches and gearbox oil? Says who?

Am on 75k on mine, and still on first clutch and gearbox oil has never been changed. And trust me it's been driven hard enough! (ask Heather&Stephen on the MLR how it's driven ;))

Welcome on board - very nice motor

IIRC it's the Fabia which is having more than its fair share of clutch problems. Apart from a circlip coming adrift on a wiper linkage, my 4X4 has been faultless from new. That said, a Fabia vRS would make a very nice second car to go with an Evo. :)

A slightly belated welcome to the site :)

If you go through the clutch on the Evo (which I can imagine ;) hehe) the Furby clutch may not be the best at the moment, but in another thread on this site there is mention of an uprated clutch coming along in the nearish future. I am seriously considering using that uprated clutch if mine fails/starts slipping at any point.

I'd say the Octi should be an excellent drive as well, and you can probably tune it up a lot, but then you'd loose on the day-to-day fuel economy again. The Furby can be tuned too and it still returns pretty decent MPG even then - that said when driven really hard with loads of mods it's probably less than perfect :D

Having driven the Furby for a test drive, I think in 'normal' to/from work it's good fun to drive, you'll definitely miss the rev-range of the Evo though.

Go for a test drive in both, for sure, you'll probably enjoy both :D

Appologies, my mistake I jsut have lodged in my head reading this post - been trying to find it, about a bloke with an Octy 4*4 that'd gone through 2 clutches both at very relatively short milages. Anyone else remember it? Or am i hallucinating?

sorry!

The clutch is the biggest issue have with the Evo! I can cope with the fuel economy as there is no such thing as a free lunch. If you make big power and use it you expect to burn some fuel in the process. :hotdevil:

The original clutch lasted untill 8k and I nursed it till 11k and fitted an Exedy 3 puck paddle clutch with uprated cover and a Fidanza alloy flywheel. That lasted till 16k and I fitted an Exedy Hiper Single 6 puck paddle clutch with alloy cover and alloy flywheel and the friction plate lasted till 20k when I replaced it with a new friction plate.(the cover and flywheel were like new) The car is on 23k now so it's probably due another as we speak .

It's not thrashing the car thats killing the clutches, it's slipping them in traffic to and from work. The easy answer is go Diesel run-about, but I get bored really easy :( and the Evo would get dragged out of the garage for day to day driving again. I think the Fabia may be the answer.

But I'd have to tune it!!! ;)

Correct! :D

we can have head to heads at Ty Croes then too!

What sort of power is available and what is the limit of mods on the market at the moment? I don't mind getting my hands dirty or experimenting but it's easier if somone has walked the path ahead of you. :)

It's easy for the Evo, how deep your pockets are depends on how fast you can go, and theres allways someone building a bigger badder Evo than you are so the parts and knowledge are easily availible. Some of the big tuners are knocking on the door of 1000bhp so that sort on tuning is well above my pocket money :o so I'll never be treading new ground with my Evo mods.

Mac. :D
